Creating a Custom Engagement Ring- Part 1

Though rings are often associated with marriage, this isn’t always the case. Rings are versatile in meaning, and have held symbolic value in humanity for centuries. From personal expression to granting invisibility to physical declarations of love, rings really have no single purpose. Whether you’re a Lord of the Rings fan or want simply to create a cost-effective option for your fraternity, this is the perfect way to dip your toes into the world of SOLIDWORKS.

Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing with you a four part tutorial series on how to create a custom engagement ring in SOLIDWORKS! We’ll start slow, and cover everything from the prongs and settings to adding additional accent stones and rounding off the shank for maximum comfort.

Building the Shank and Center Diamond

Today, we’ll start laying out the shank and center diamond setting of our ring using some of the beginner level features including Extruded Boss, Revolved Boss, Revolved Cut, and you’ll learn how to translate bodies using sketched reference points.

Once a week for the next month, we will bring you the next step in the Custom Engagement Ring tutorial series. Can’t wait for the next video? View all of the tutorials on the playlist here.

As always, thanks for watching! Show us what you come up with in the comments section! We can’t wait to see your designs!
