Gingerbread Train Set Tutorial – Part 2

This is Part 2 of a two-part SOLIDWORKS tutorial for a Gingerbread Train Set. If you want to follow the tutorial to create the full train set, you will need to watch Part 1 of this tutorial where the front train and wheels are created, more importantly how to add reference points to parts ready for a motion analysis with Path Mates. You can view Part 1 here.

This tutorial demonstrates the use of path mates, to create a motion analysis of a train set that moves through the application of path motors creating a moving toy train set. It also runs through some tips and tricks for if your model gets stuck and errors during the analysis calculations.

During the tutorial the train and wheels created in Part 1 tutorial will be brought into an assembly with the tracks, carriages and accessories. Different mates will be applied in preparation for a Motion Analysis, including path mates.

The path mates will then be used to run a motion analysis where the train and carriages will follow a guide sketch on the tracks. The wheels of the trains will all have rotary motors applies to give the appearance of movement. The motion analysis can then be used to create an animation.

The accessories, tracks and carriages for this tutorial are available available to download here.
