Users have long asked for the ability to Flatten Surfaces in SOLIDWORKS. This exciting new feature, which is now available in SOLIDWORKS 2015 enables a more streamlined manufacturing process for products such as footwear, apparel, and even hull design in shipbuilding.
Flatten Surface allows multiple connected surfaces to be flattened in one operation. To assess the accuracy of the flattening process, a deformation plot is also available to highlight areas of high compression or stretching. And of course, SOLIDWORKS gives you the option to output directly to DXF/DWG file format. This is great if you want to send this to your nesting program or CNC router!
