Moon Lander!

Now that FIRST Robotics Competition teams are more familiar with SOLIDWORKS xDesign, it’s time to design contest submissions! The moon lander can be the classic Apollo design, slick and modern, or something totally bonkers and made for a science fiction movie! Whatever the teams want to design, it just has to be a moon lander.

Designs will be judged by a panel of SOLIDWORKS executives. Designs will be judged based on creativity, elegance of design, and participation in the 3DEXPERIENCE community. All posts to the 3DEXPERIENCE community must include the team number and the hashtag #ContestEntry. For example, the title of a post could be “Check out this cool hatch design! [Team 000] #ContestEntry.”

Teams have until December 7, 2018 to design and submit their moon landers. Here’s are the Submission Guidelines:

i. Your Entry must adhere to the theme that will be announced via email from the Sponsor to all Team Members and Mentors on November 12, 2018.

ii. Your Entry must include:

1. An original Design created by only your Team Members and using only SOLIDWORKS xDesign software.

2. An email sent from the Mentor or one of the Team Members (copied to all Team Members and your Mentor) to abi9@3ds.com that includes the following (collectively the “Submission Requirements”):

a. Your Design inspiration story.

b. An explanation of your Design.

c. A description of how you used SOLIDWORKS xDesign to create your Design.

d. Up to three (3) presentation sheets (in JPEG format no more than 1MB each). While you are encouraged to be creative with the composition of these three sheets, you must show the FRONT, SIDE, TOP and ISOMETRIC/ PERSPECTIVE views of your model in at least one of the presentation sheets. We love creativity. Use your imagination here to bump up your chances of winning one of the prizes.

e. Optionally, if you would like to send a video or animation of your Team’s Design in addition to the presentation sheets, you may send it to abi9@3ds.com by uploading your video or animation to a file transfer services, or video site, and sending the link to your animation or video in your email. While your video or animation is appreciated, it will not be judged.

iii. The Contest Entry submitted must be created solely by each Team’s Team Members using only SOLIDWORKS xDesign. Designs must be owned solely by the applicable Team and must be the original work of the Team Members.

iv. Please remember that you MUST invite abi9@3ds.com to your Collaborative Space that contains your Design AND you MUST submit your complete Entry on or before 11:59 p.m. ET on December 7, 2018, the end of Contest Period.

The SOLIDWORKS xDesign Challenge for FRC Teams is open only to eligible FIRST Robotics Competition teams, registered for the 2018/2019 FIRST Robotics Competition season, located in the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, with at least 1 adult mentor and a minimum of 5 student team members 14+.
