MODSIM Webinar Series #7: Resemin Doubles Product Development Throughput and Streamlines Data Management

Thank you to everyone who attended our live webinar, MODSIM with 3DEXPERIENCE® Works: Resemin Customer Success Story. This was the seventh live webinar in the MODSIM series. Please continue to send your feedback about the webinars. We value your insights and invite you to continue sharing your thoughts on how we can enhance our future webinars.

The webinar covered how Resemin improved equipment performance and increased innovation while accelerating development cycles using SOLIDWORKS® 3D CAD modeling and 3DEXPERIENCE Works simulation (MODSIM).

Company Background & Productivity Gains

Resemin is a leading manufacturer that is leveraging the MODSIM approach to accelerate development and offer mass customization to its customers. Founded in 1989, Resemin, headquartered in Lima, Peru, is the third-largest global manufacturer of underground mining, drilling, and related equipment. The company’s drilling equipment provides a better, more cost-effective alternative to traditional drilling rigs for mining and tunneling applications.

Because Resemin products must operate safely and reliably within extreme underground mining environments, the company is committed to leveraging advanced design, engineering, and analysis technologies to ensure product quality and dependability. The company moved from AutoCAD® 2D tools to SOLIDWORKS in 2008, which enabled Resemin to cut its machine delivery times in half, increase throughput from two to 45 machines annually, shorten analysis run times from two days to two hours, and reduce prototyping by 70 percent, according to Engineering Manager Fernando Díaz.

“The productivity gains with SOLIDWORKS prompted us to evaluate 3DEXPERIENCE Works solutions from Dassault Systèmes when we encountered a need to run nonlinear vibration and fatigue analyses to extend the durability of our equipment and develop more innovative products,” Díaz explains.

Synchronize Modeling and Simulation

During the recorded webinar, you will see how the use of 3DEXPERIENCE Works Simulation with SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD modeling software not only provided insights into improving the driller arm but also supports Resemin’s overarching product and business objectives in the heavy equipment mining market. Top manufacturers in this market typically spend 1.5 to 2 percent of revenue—close to $2 billion—on product failures and warranty claims.

Diaz continues, “In addition to the loss of revenue, such claims typically result in a loss of customer trust and market share, both of which we need to avoid.” Combining SOLIDWORKS for design and 3DEXPERIENCE Works Simulation gives Resemin a seamless solution for a synchronized design modeling and simulation process, which is critically important for improving product reliability, durability, and performance.

The Power of the Cloud

Using 3D CAD modeling and simulation together enables you to identify potential problems and innovate earlier in the development process. This streamlines design efficiency. Also, spotting issues early in product development helps avoid delays and unexpected costs during production.

The cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform provides the technology infrastructure to manage your team’s people, data, and documents, including suppliers, manufacturers, and customers. You can securely access, manage, and share SOLIDWORKS data and 3DEXPERIENCE Works Simulation results from any location with an internet connection.
