How to create Spur and Helical Gears in SOLIDWORKS

Today we have another video tutorial that can be found below.  I must warn you however, it’s a bit long at just over 23 minutes.  I decided to create this video based on past requests, watching complicated examples on YouTube, and preemptively anticipating these questions from my posts yesterday.

If you haven’t checked them out, yesterday I created two posts celebrating 75 years of Batman.  The first found here, looks at the engineering behind Batman’s gadgets.  The second, found here, is a video tutorial that shows how Batman might use SOLIDWORKS to design the infamous Grapple Gun.  In that second post, I show how to generate Gear and Path Mates in SOLIDWORKS.  One of the missing pieces was how to create the gears themselves.

In this video, I show not only how to create Spur and Helical Gears using SOLIDWORKS, but also how to add intelligence to the design and let SOLIDWORKS do most of the heavy lifting for you.  This video relies heavily on equations, so I go into depth as to how to create them.  If you’ve never used equations in SOLIDWORKS, this is a great video for that also.  Like usually, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to leave them below.
