Congratulations to the Winners of the SOLIDWORKS xChallenge 2019!

Today we are excited to announce the winners of the SOLIDWORKS xChallenge 2019! On November 4, 2019, FIRST® Robotics Competition Teams in the United States were invited to become 3D Creators and 3D Sculptors for the chance to win $10,000. Using xDesign and xShape on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, dozens of teams collaborated on the cloud and designed their own personal flying machines. We received 26 entries and a panel of SOLIDWORKS executives and employees judged them all and decided on the top three.

Our first place, $10,000 prize winning team is FRC Team 7460 Avi and Friends, with their amazing and creative Penguinny PX-40 design.

Our second place team, winning $5,000, is FRC Team 1902 Exploding Bacon, with their realistic SWINEJET design.

The third place prize of $3,000 goes to FRC Team 1189 The Gearheads, with Gerrald, their out-of-the-box hoverboard and propeller hat.

23 other qualifying teams will receive $500 each for participating and creating their fantastic designs. Thank you to all the FIRST Robotics Competition teams who made our second annual xChallenge so incredible!

Thank you to our panel of judges: SOLIDWORKS CEO Gian Paolo Bassi, SOLIDWORKS R&D Vice President Manish Kumar, Senior Director Professional Solutions 3DEXPERIENCE Murielle Martin, Director SOLIDWORKS for Entrepreneurs Greg Smith, SOLIDWORKS Alliance & Partnership Manager Terence McCabe, Business Development Manager, Startup and Entrepreneurs Jillian Friot, and SOLIDWORKS Education Technical Sales Manager Ryan Kohler.

Finally, thank you to the SOLIDWORKS executives and employees who made the xChallenge possible: Abhishek Bali, Gian Calise, Brian Craven, Suchit Jain, Sara Junghans, Ben Horton, Marie Planchard, Nikhil Potabatti, Mark Rushton, Ajay Vaidya, and Sara Zuckerman.

What is the SOLIDWORKS xChallenge 2019?

USA based teams of high school students on FIRST Robotics Teams, age 14 to 18, worked for six weeks to design personal flying machines using design apps on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. They were judged not only on the creativity and complexity of their final designs, but also on how they utilized the 3DEXPEREINCE Community created for the xChallenge.

In the end, 26 teams from across the country submitted their final designs, along with write-ups detailing their design inspiration story, an explanation of their designs, and a description of how their team used xDesign and xShape.
