Open Minds Contest Poland – Design Students Win with Industry Partners

The first edition of the OPEN_MINDS design contest was held in Gdansk University of Technology and the Academy of Fine Arts, Poland. The contest was held in conjunction with SolidExpert Poland our SOLIDWORKS Value Added Reseller.

Design students created solutions to make shopping easier for people with limited mobility and restriction to wheelchairs.  Students incorporated the slogan, “shopABILITY” into the process and user experience.

After brainstorming, customer research and prototyping, students got to work with SOLIDWORKS customer Bibus Menos for training, support and 3D printing of prototypes.

Students, together with the Institute of Personnel Development, learned best practices of self-presentation and speeches to prepare for final presentation day.  Judges were from Bibus Menos, SolidExpert, Alvo Medical and Black Pearls.

Congratulations to first place team Joanna Charczuk, Gdańsk Academy of Fine Arts Industrial Design, Matthew Kanabrocki, Mechatronics, Sebastian Urbanowski , Mechanical Engineering Technical University of Gdansk and Catherine Waliłko, Mechanical Engineering – Medical for their design – an “adjustable handle on the basket shop fitted to a wheelchair.”

The winners received a paid internship in industry partner companies and participated in selected, certified training in design in CAD 3D – SolidWorks with SolidExpert.
