SKIPPER 2025 Poland: Student Innovation Takes Flight in Wind Energy Design Competition

On Thursday, January 9, 2025, the 2nd edition of the Student Prototype Engineering Design Competition for the Energy Sector – SKIPPER 2025 took place in Krakow, Poland. Seven teams of students took part in the event at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, one of the best technical universities in Poland. This competition was supported by SOLIDWORKS reseller, SOLIDEXPERT POLSKA SP. Z O.O.

The competition task was to create a prototype of a wind turbine component that meets the requirements for energy efficiency and durability. Participants used SOLIDWORKS to design the part. The next stage was to print it out and test it. The jury also assessed the team’s presentation of the design.

What counted in the competition?

🔹 Innovation of the project – a creative and modern approach to design,

🔹 Precision of execution – matching the prototype to the technical requirements,

🔹 Test results – effectiveness of the model under simulated operating conditions,

🔹 Presentation of results – ability to defend the design in front of a jury of experts.

During the event, specialists from SOLIDEXPERT: Władysław Hamiga – Technical Specialist for 3DEXPERIENCE / SIMULATION, who was on the jury of the competition and Agnieszka Galarowicz, actively reviewed students’ entries.

It was a great opportunity to participate in this unique event promoting innovation and teamwork among students. Agnieszka explained, “We would also like to congratulate the participants in the competition who rose to the two demanding challenges and presented their solutions.”

Results of the competition:

1st place: Team Wings of the Phoenix (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics AGH, Faculty of Geology, Geophysics and Environmental Protection AGH)

2nd place: Team W.A.S.P (Faculty of Power and Fuels AGH, High School in Brzozowa)

3rd place: Team LK_SIM (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics AGH).
