SolidWorks World – Showcase Educators Innovation
Jussi Liikkanen, Turku University of Applied Sciences, Finland, was supposed to speak at SolidWorks World 2014. Unfortunately he broke his Achilles tendon, now in a pink cast, and will not be able to take the 20 hour plane ride. Jussi, you will be missed and we wish you a speedy recovery.
We are fortunate to have educators, at all levels, presenting on a variety of topics showcasing their innovation in the classroom and with their students. This Sunday, SolidWorks World 2014 San Diego, we expect over 5000 attendees. This is the engineering event not to be missed. Marie

4806 | CAD Intro for Product Design Students: From ABC to Redesign in 10 WeeksA new approach for introducing our non engineering product design students to CAD and design communication. Students are put through their paces; an intense SolidWorks ABC introduction, through reverse engineering challenges, to comprehensive redesign of specific aspects of a product’s lifecycle.Speakers: Mikael Omlid, Workshop Manager, CAD supervisor, Oslo & Akershus University CollegeRoom: 10 | Breakout Session |
4811 | CSWP; What to Expect and the Skills to Pass (Hands-on Session)The CSWP is a key certification for proving your skills. Essential skills to pass will be reviewed. Learn what the test looks like and how it works, learn to use equations and linked values, configurations, design tables, coordinate systems, motion tools, shells, mass, and center of gravity.Speakers: John Edrington, Assistant Professor, Purdue University, Bryan Ray Limited Term Lecturer, Purdue UniversityRoom: 32A | Hands-On Session |
4862 | Project-based Learning with SolidWorksProject-based learning is one of the key elements in the new Common Core Standards being adopted throughout the country. Learn how one experienced educator uses a PBL environment in her classroom with SolidWorks.Speakers: Elise Moss, Faculty, Laney CollegeRoom: 10 | Breakout Session |
4903 | SolidWorks, Mechatronics, and Robotics Outreach ProgramsExplore how SolidWorks is used in a mechatronics course to build competitive robots for college competitions. See how teaching SolidWorks to high school students in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition (FRC) can help influence students considering engineering, science, or math as a future career.Speakers: Jonathan Stokes, Student Mechanical Engineer, California State University (CSU)-FresnoRoom: 11A | Breakout Session |
5042 | How to Teach SolidWorksIt is not uncommon for students to have difficulties grasping basic concepts when they are taught SolidWorks the “traditional way.” Attend this presentation and learn new, innovative, and extremely effective teaching techniques and grading that will make you a better SolidWorks instructor and also a better user.Speakers: Alin Vargatu, Elite Application Engineer, Javelin Technologies , Irfan Zardadkhan, Professor, Old Dominion UniversityRoom: 10 |

5224 | Disrupting the Car Industry: Hi-Tech Manufacturing in the College LabThrough the use of SolidWorks and rapid prototyping, a small team of community college students prove that forward-thinking automotive concepts can be brought from design to low-cost, fully functioning, engineered prototypes in 12 short weeks.Speakers: Eric Flynn, Principal Investigator, College of Technology, Gateway Community CollegeRoom: 10 | Breakout Session |
5412 | Reenergizing Statics and Strength of Materials Class Using SolidWorks! We will present our experience on re-engineering and modernizing the statics and strength of materials course using SolidWorks. The curriculum uses examples of problems in vector additions, cross-sectional properties, free body diagrams, and statics determinate and indeterminate structures.Speakers: Miodrag Micic, Department Chairman, Dept of Engineering Technology, Cerritos CollegeRoom: 10 | Breakout Session |
5747 | A SolidWorks Bases Automotive CurriculumAttend a showcase in how HAN Automotive Engineering implements SolidWorks (CAD, CFD, and CAE) in its educational program. The main focus is on making students familiar with the tools most of them will be using during their future careers.Speakers: Jaap Janssens, Lecturer/Teacher/Researcher, HAN University of Applied SciencesRoom: 28A/B | |
6142 | Bringing CAD Based STEM Curriculum to Rural High SchoolsCAD based STEM technology programs in rural high schools have always struggled. The cost of a lab, software & a certified instructor is cost prohibitive. SUU with the help of SOLIDWORKS is piloting a course this year that solves these challenges and provide students a CAD based STEM experience.Speakers: Richard Cozzens Southern Utah University, Jeremy Farner, Weber State University | Breakout Session |
