My Best Final Exam is the Certified SolidWorks Associate Exam
Wow, then end of March finds me visiting so many schools between robot competitions, capstone design projects, and senior presentations. Instuctors have so much to do during this time between final exams, graduation, grant proposals, and writing letters of recommendation for their students.
Yesterday while visiting student presentations at one university, a professor told me that the Certified SolidWorks Associate Exam has made his life easier – he no longer has to create a final exam. He gives his students an exam that it is graded automatically, "my best final exam is the CSWA",. The professor requires that all his tutors for the first year classes must be CSWA certified – making 200 freshman students to ask the tutors more questions during lab and to get the right answers – reducing frustration. One of his student's, Chris told me he would not have gotten an interview if he wasn't CSWA certified. His new SolidWorks employer wants all their engineers to be Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) certified after one year.
As the SolidWorks Certification grows in industry, any school on subscription can apply to give the CSWA exam – our first level. The CSWA exam is available in 10 languages. It is the first exam in a series of life long learning competencies in engineering design including sheet metal, molding, weldments, finite element analysis and advanced modeling techniques. For instructors who give the CSWA exam, information on each student's competencies and areas of improvement are provided.

When I was teaching, I know how challanging it was to come up with final exams for multiple sections – especially in 3DCAD. The CSWA would have saved me alot of time and given my students a leg up in a tough job market.
