Flexibility at Your Fingertips — Offline Mode and the Welcome App are Here!

Summer is here in the states, and I don’t know about you, but I could use a vacation. I have been daydreaming about sipping a margarita in Cancun. I’ll daydream on my own time. Right now, I’ve got bigger fish to fry as I’ve got to fill you in on what’s new in 3DEXPERIENCE® SOLIDWORKS.

For those of you who don’t know, 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS is a cloud-connected role that connects your data to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, where you can leverage data management capabilities in the cloud.

The latest update is here, and guess what? Offline mode is here! There’s also a new Welcome app, and some other great functional and user experience enhancements. Here are my top five.

  1. Go Mobile with Offline Mode – work from anywhere, anytime, on any device.

They say go big or go home. Now you can do both with this flexible option. You can work in offline mode while you travel, on site, at home or at the office.

Internet crashes, no problem. We’ve got you covered.

This enhancement is pretty straightforward. But if you’re interested in learning more stay tuned for an upcoming blog mid-August.

Offline mode is here. Now you can work on an airplane, on site, or whenever creativity may strike.

  1. NEW Welcome App — great for new and seasoned users – save time with helpful resources right at your fingertips.

Learn about features, access SOLIDWORKS® online communities, and launch your other roles and apps straight from the new Welcome app.

The Welcome app will have you up and running quickly on 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS features, and other roles you own. It includes short how-to videos on everything from getting started, navigating around the interface and managing content. It also has Sample Content, where you can open a model to get a feel for some of the capabilities. If you want to quickly reach out to your peers or the SOLIDWORKS team, you can instantly access an online community or contact SOLIDWORKS support.

You can even access the full library of tutorials in the 3DEXPERIENCE EDU Space learning platform for more in-depth tutorials.

It’s all conveniently located in the Welcome app right at your fingertips.

  1. SOLIDWORKS Data Extraction on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform for Non-CAD Users – improve collaboration with your colleagues.

We’ve added a super nifty enhancement for collaboration that enables colleagues who have the 3D Product Architect role, but don’t have SOLIDWORKS, to extract native SOLIDWORKS data from the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. They can easily access the data using the Product Structure Editor app.

This is extremely useful if the data needs to be accessed for marketing purposes or for sharing downstream with external stakeholders, such as vendors or manufacturers.

Collaboration just got better. 3D Product Architect Role owners (with access rights of course) can now extract your native SOLIDWORKS data right from the 3DEXPERIENCE platform for improved collaboration.

  1. Match Drawing Title Name After Its Parent – save time and the headache of keeping track of your children.

Easily keep track of your children (not the ones at home), with the option to match a drawing title to its parent/assembly title. This flexible option is useful when auto-aligning a drawing title to avoid mismatched titles.

It’s also helpful when you are working on a drawing and forgot its assembly name.

This is a widely sought-after technique in the industry and now you have it.

Save time and headaches when trying to remember titles of assemblies and its children (components) with the option to use a part or assembly title as ne drawing title.

  1. NEW Revisions Comment Property – improve your revision comment workflow.

Last, but not last there’s a new option for administration to map the revision comment as a CAD attribute and link it to SOLIDWORKS file properties.

This helps communicate accurate detail on a drawing by allowing the design approver to enter a revision comment directly from the 3DEXPERIENCE platform using ENOVIA applications such as Product Structure Editor or Product Explorer.

That’s a wrap of my top five for this release, which is just a glimpse of what’s new.
