Extended Reality (XR) Now Available to Test

Welcome to SOLIDWORKS Extended Reality (XR) – a method to transform your CAD data and bring it to life, virtually – opening the future of design and engineering.

We are now ready for you to test this exciting new export type from SOLIDWORKS CAD, as part of the 2019 Beta Program. This exporter will retain important scene data you’ve created within SOLIDWORKS such as:

  • Geometry & Scene Hierarchy
  • Appearances & Textures
  • Lights and Cameras
  • Exploded Views
  • Motion Study Animations
  • Display States and Configurations
  • Metadata including: Per-configuration custom properties, per-node comments, per-node & document general and design tables

The resulting file can then be consumed directly in a variety of Augmented Reality & Virtual Reality experiences, Web viewers and more. For example, this means you can re-play animations you created inside SOLIDWORKS CAD, toggle through pre-defined Display States, or trigger an Exploded Animation…all within in supported AR/VR/Web experiences!

We asked many customers over the past 18 months for the top reasons why they want to move to AR/VR and these are the main use cases we developed this new XR Exporter around:
• Sell your designs more effectively
• Connect with global teams to drive better designs more efficiently
• Train and engage your own consumers virtually

We hope that this workflow dramatically simplifies the path from SOLIDWORKS to Extended Reality (XR) experiences and can’t wait to see what you create!
