UNH Formula SAE and Baja SAE Engineered for Racing

UNH Precision Racing At Workbench

The SAE shop is very busy as University of New Hampshire engineering  Formula SAE Precision Racing and BAJA SAE Racing teams prepare for SAE competitions.  You can feel the students’ pride as they share their designs and engineering stories with the SolidWorks Education team.

We are extremely fortunate to have Professor and Mechanical Department Chair Brad Kinsey and students Drummond Biles and Vojtech Kubec answer our questions during this video interview.

UNH Baja Frame SolidWorks Simulation

UNH BAJA SAE shared how they have used SOLIDWORKS SImulation to test the safety and validity of their frame design and SolidWorks Flow Simulation in air flow analysis.

The garage is more that just a place for SAE vehicle development.  This is an integrated team.  Students “hang out” in this space between classes.  While in the garage, one FSAE member just came back from a job interview – the company used SOLIDWORKS.  Another student took the battery out of his motorcycle – parked outside the shop – to show us their cable-wire harness diagnostics.

There is also great pride in how well this small team has done on their own.  The FSAE Michigan retired numbers hang proudly from the ceiling.

Thank you Jonathan DeWolf and the UNH SAE team members for sharing your stories.  Good luck in the competitions.  Marie
