Don’t Lose Your Mind or Your DraftSight Data – Connect to the Cloud

Stop! Collaborate and listen. Raise your hand if you were into Vanilla Ice. Or maybe it was New Kids on the Block. BTS anyone? Enough about rappers and boy bands. But raise your hand if you find yourself wasting time searching for your DraftSight® drawings. Well then, it’s time to connect your data to the cloud. Frankly if you haven’t connected your DraftSight data to the cloud, you’re missing out.

3DEXPERIENCE® DraftSight has all your favorite 2D drawing features of DraftSight desktop, plus all the good stuff that comes with the cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform, including data management and collaboration capabilities you can access from anywhere, on any device.

In this blog I’m going to make the case on why you should connect your DraftSight data to the cloud by pointing out a few of the top features that foster collaboration, speed up your workflow and provide some overall benefits to help convince you. For those already using the 3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight role stick around, you might learn something new as I’m also going to cover a few of the latest enhancements.

Get a Grip on Your Projects in the Collaborative Space – increase productivity for the whole team from design to market.

One of the prominent features to help you organize, manage and collaborate on your projects is in the Collaborative Space on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

Collaborative spaces can be created to enable teams to work on a dedicated project and allow multiple users to work on it and you can also designate your own private space for projects. Creating a collaborative space for a project and allowing the organization’s members and vendors to work on the data in those spaces makes information flow easier among the various stakeholders.

For example, you may want to have a “Test” folder/space for various drawings or projects you’re working on that only you have access to. Or maybe your organization has a space with material relevant for the marketing team. I think you get the idea.

Collaborative Space

With quick access to the Collaborative Space in 3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight (and other 3DEXPERIENCE platform solutions) you can find all the projects you are involved or have created and specific ones you’re sharing with stakeholders. There’s also a Common Space that is typically used as community database for various projects where members company-wide can access.

Privacy, no problem. You can assign access control to each folder to share with members of your organization or external stakeholders who have access to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

Each folder also shows the date modified, whether it is private or public and what family it belongs to.  Members can add and save to the folders just as you would when you attach or upload a file to an email, desktop, or cloud storage solution.

All Aboard (or off) with Admin Control – instantly grant and remove member access to a role or app.

Getting others on board who are new to 3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight is a breeze with our administration control features, such as the Member Control Center. Easily grant members a role or app by searching for their profile on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and simply drag and drop it to their profile and the role is instantly granted.

As you can see it’s a very simple process to grant additional roles and apps to additional users. It significantly reduces time and resources to get new members on the team access to 3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight, and you can easily remove access when someone leaves the team.

Connect and Collaborate with Online Communities – get the answers you’re looking for and connect with staff and peers.

Another perk of 3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight is access to online communities right from your dashboard, such as the DraftSight user community and many other public and private communities, where you can ask and answer questions, share models, videos, and connect and learn from others. The product managers, including myself also use these online communities and we try to provide answers as fast as we can.

What’s New to Date?

We bring new enhancements to 3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight through multiple functional deliveries yearly, addressing user requests, improvements and adding additional functionality. Unlike traditional desktop solutions, you don’t have to upgrade to an annual release, you can enjoy functional delivery enhancements coming to the 3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight instantly, for free!

Plus, we’ve enabled you to delay the functional deliveries/updates for 14 days. Either way, the functional delivery updates just take a few moments but there’s times you want to stick to the task at hand. So, when you get an update alert you don’t have to break the continuity of your workflow. You can delay it, so it doesn’t interrupt your productivity.

We’ve also added a batch upload option enabling you to batch save multiple files to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and check for duplicates during this process. Look out for more on this in my upcoming blog.
