Brudden Equipment Ltd. Goes From Agricultural Machinery to Fitness Equipment with SOLIDWORKS
Some of the biggest brands in the world produce products in multiple markets, some of which you don’t even realize. Some even started out in completely different industries before finding their signature product. Let’s take 3M, for instance. Before creating Scotch® Tapes or Post-it® Super Sticky Notes, it had originally focused its efforts on mining for a mineral known as corundum. However, when its original attempts were not as fruitful, the company focused instead on coming up with new ideas and innovating with different minerals. Through its hard work and collaboration, it was able to create many of the products we use every day.
Our customers also thrive on innovation and aren’t afraid to take risks and try out business in other markets or industries. Let’s take a look at Brudden Equipment Ltd. and learn more about how it expanded its already successful agriculture machinery business and spun off a new brand of fitness products.
Throughout Latin America, Brudden Equipment Ltd. is widely known for its Brudden® brand of agricultural machinery. However, it also has a market-leading Movement® Brand of physical fitness equipment. Established in Brazil in 1980, Brudden Equipment Ltd. product development initiatives have grown out of its founding mission, resulting in the introduction of the awarding-winning Movement line of physical fitness products in 1998.
“The company leveraged its expertise in agricultural products and its relationship with the Biomechanics Laboratory at the University of Sao Paulo to become the first Brazilian company to enter the fitness market,” recalls Engineering Manager Victor E. F. Xavier. “Since then, we have achieved the largest market share in the Latin and South American fitness equipment market.”
Due to the company’s growth and product expansion, in 2007 Brudden began to re-evaluate its existing Mechanical Desktop® and Autodesk® Inventor® design tools. After evaluating multiple 3D design systems, Brudden made the decision to standardize on SOLIDWORKS solutions in order to streamline and accelerate its product development.
Since implementing SOLIDWORKS solutions, it has achieved its product development goals by reducing time to market by 25 to 30 percent. They have also utilized other products in the SOLIDWORKS portfolio like SOLIDWORKS Simulation Premium, which has allowed their designers to run analyses more frequently and, in turn, reduced its prototyping costs by 40 percent.
