Can I upgrade from one SolidWorks package to another?

As many of you know, SolidWorks 3D CAD software is available in three different packages. SolidWorks Standard is a powerful 3D design solution for rapid creation of parts, assemblies, and 2D drawings.

The next step up is SolidWorks Professional, which builds on the capabilities of SolidWorks Standard with file management tools, advanced photorealistic rendering, automated cost estimation, eDrawings® Professional collaboration capabilities, automated design and drawing checking, and a sophisticated components and parts library.

The most advanced package in SolidWorks Premium, which adds powerful simulation and design validation to the capabilities of SolidWorks Professional, as well as ECAD/MCAD collaboration, reverse engineering, and advanced wire and pipe routing functionality.

SolidWorks 3D CAD isn’t the only application available in different packages. We also offer two versions of SolidWorks Simulation–Simulation Premium and Simulation Professional–as well as a separate Flow Simulation product with HVAC and Electronic Cooling modules. Similarly, we offer SolidWorks Plastics Professional and Premium, as well as SolidWorks Electrical 2D and 3D.

We realize that your engineering needs can change over time, and we never want you to have that feeling of being “stuck” with your current package. Many of our customers who start out with SolidWorks Standard or Professional often ask if it’s possible to upgrade to the next package at a later time. The answer to this is yes, you can upgrade your SolidWorks package whenever you feel that you’re ready (for example, from SolidWorks Professional to SolidWorks Premium). Simply contact your local SolidWorks Value Added Reseller, who will be happy to discuss your options and help you choose the best upgrade option. You can also check out these great videos that explain the capabilities of each package.

Unfortunately, these same upgrading policies do not apply for SolidWorks Student Edition software. If you are a student and are interested in purchasing the latest version, please visit our Education page to learn more.
