Why do They Call it the Midwest?

I’ve often wondered why Minnesota and Wisconsin are considered to be in the Midwest US, but I’m not going to argue with the US Census Bureau.  This week takes me through both states as I’ll visit three user groups in three days.

First up is LEWA, and a chance to see the headquarters of Ashley Furniture in Arcadia, WI.  The group draws SolidWorks users from a triangle of cities, thus the name..LA Crosse, Eau Claire, Winona Area SolidWorks User Group.

On Wednesday, I’ll head over to Owatonna, MN for the Southern Minnesota SolidWorks User Group meeting being held at the Owatonna Country Club.  Guess what we’re doing after the meeting?

On to Minneapolis Thursday for the Minnesota SolidWorks User Group (the 2007 SWUGN User Group of the Year), also being held near a golf course.  It’s tough traveling with golf clubs, but I’ll rough it this time.

Thanks to the group leaders, Betty Baker, Rob Jensen, and Dan Podzimek for working together to schedule these meetings back-to-back-to-back.  I’m looking forward to each one.

My official title is Senior User Advocacy & SolidWorks User Groups - but most people just call me "The User Group Guy". I've been a SolidWorks user since 1997, and was one of the founding members of the SWUGN Committee. Since starting the Central Texas SolidWorks User Group in 1999, my career path has led me to DS SolidWorks and a dream job supporting the SolidWorks User Group Network worldwide.
