4Speed F1 in Schools Portugal Designs with SOLIDWORKS

The SOLIDWORKS EDU team loves this time of year.  It’s competition season in schools.  No matter what your age, there are great design challenges all over the world.  We sponsor 1000’s of teams with SOLIDWORKS desktop.

We received a request from the F1 in Schools team, 4Speed,  from Escola Secundaria Afonso Lopes Vieira, Leiria, Portugal for sponsorship.

The 4Speed team wanted to use SOLIDWORKS to design their vehicle named, “The G.”

When we asked 4Speed why the team wanted to use SOLIDWORKS the replied, “SOLIDWORKS  is the best program for Auto Tenders.  We are a team interested in the automotive field and SOLIDWORKS is our favorite program because of its precision and efficiency.”

The 4Speed team is part of the “Pense Indústria i4.0” Project, which aims to raise awareness, attract and train young people from the 3rd cycle of basic and secondary education.  The project concentrates in the areas of knowledge and professionals in the field of technology, industry, innovation and entrepreneurship, contributing to the student’s vocational guidance.

One of the activities of the “Pense Indústria i4.0” Project is the i4.0 Digital Tools and Entrepreneurship Contest: F1inSchools, which is developing with young people from schools in the district. This international competition is a multidisciplinary challenge, which consists of the development by young people, using 3D software, of miniature Formula 1 cars, taking into account concepts such as aerodynamics and design.

Three finals to determine the team that will represent Portugal in the world championship. In addition to the development of the F1 miniature car, the teams must have a marketing strategy, sponsorships, and possible partnerships.

When 4Speed received their software, they reached out to us and responded,   “When SOLIDWORKS accepted our sponsorship request our friends couldn’t believe it because it is the best software on the market.”

We wish 4Speed the best this competitive season and to develop the life-long skills needed for great careers with SOLIDWORKS. Good luck at F1inSchools Portugal Regionals too.

As SOLIDWORKS is part of the 3DEXPERIENCE Works portfolio, teams can also apply for SOLIDWORKS Cloud CAD Apps and 3DEXPERIENCE Engineer featuring Abaqus.

Any competitive team can apply for SOLIDWORKS desktop and SOLIDWORKS cloud apps sponsorship at www.solidworks.com/studentsponsorship.

Update: On April 20th, the team went to Marinha Grande to compete in the Regionals and after a lot of work the Team won the Regionals.  In addition to a first place victory, Team 4Speed won the prizes of engineering, faster car and better display and portfolio!

On May 24th and 25th Team 4Speed will travel to Santa Maria da Feira in Porto to compete in the Nationals!  Their car’s time was 1.2 seconds but Team 4Speed hopes to improve even more to win the Nationals!

SOLIDWORKS Edu can’t wait to hear about the results.  Good luck in the competition.

Design well.  Marie
