The mission of UARX is “to provide in-space transportation services to non-traditional destinations, from Low Earth Orbit to the moon and deep space.” With the help of SOLIDWORKS design software and the 3DEXPERIENCE platform by DASSAULT SYSTEMES, over 200 students from Spain are participating in Europe to Space (EU2Space) Student Challenge supporting Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) initiatives. Already 27 Spanish Universities have joined this exciting challenge and the project keeps growing..
Europe to Space is an ambitious challenge aiming at helping university students build their skills for their future professional lives, and get the chance to send a satellite to space. Through this initiative, the group of private companies from Spain, which is leading the challenge, is looking at retaining talent in the fascinating space sector, and promote STEM disciplines. The students participate in a project to send a small satellite to space, without requiring them to pursue a degree or a master in aerospace. The phases of the project goes from the mission concept, development of flight components, integration and test of a functional satellite, up to the launch campaign and following operations, so it requires students from several fields (Mechanics, Electrical & Electronics, Software, Telecommunications, Chemical, Thermal, Computers). This is a fantastic opportunity, because teams will learn how to manage a project from the very start to its end, collaborating remotely with their teammates. It ends up being a very immersive professional experience, because when students graduate and work in industry, they’ll constantly be interacting with other people to get the most out of their mission in the company.
The satellites are designed, produced, and tested complying with the highest standards of the space industry, allowing the participants to gain valuable knowledge and knowhow they will then use in their professional lives.
The 3DEXPERIENCE platform is a technology and business innovation platform where students can collaborate and communicate their design ideas to each other and their mentors. The cloud based design apps, xDesign and xShape allow students to create anytime, anywhere and on any device. Students can also connect their SOLIDWORKS design information to the platform and platform data back to SOLIDWORKS.
