Teaching and Learning 3DEXPERIENCE and SOLIDWORKS From Home with Open COVID19 Community

David’s Engineering Design project-based class at WPI is online.  At home, we have been making face shield frames with multiple Sindoh 3DPrinters for local hospitals and medical centers, documented through the Open COVID19 community. More information on Open COVID19 Community can be found here.

David changed his class assignments to focus on the COVID19 need for face shields.

His students joined the Open COVID19 community and reviewed designs from around the world.

With SOLIDWORKS student access, the students worked as a team and developed their own face shield designs.  Teams then created posts and ideas in the community.

The Open COVID19 community utilizes technology on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.  Engineers, designers, makers and students document face shields, ventilators and other products for a greater need.

Any educator can use this community and incorporate ideas into their class.  If you used SOLIDWORKS at school, educators and students can also use SOLIDWORKS at home.  Please contact your value added reseller for more information.

Using an overhead display, David review the designs and features with his students. Designs look great in 3D, but can the shields be 3D Printed? How much material is used?  What is the foot print?  How much time does a print take?  Students are now answering real questions that have a global impact.

You can see posts on the  Open COVID19 Community here.

Be well.  Be safe.  Marie
