Collaborative Business Innovation Role for Education
My 3DEXPERIENCE New Years Resolution continues. Let’s explore the Collaborative Business Innovator role on the Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE Platform and see why it is relevant for students and educators in our SOLIDWORKS community.
The Collaborative Business Innovator role is a collection of cloud-based apps and services that digitally connect all members of a community.
It is the foundation for the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform and offers our students, educators, and researchers a place to share and manage data, providing a model-based framework for innovation.
Why should you learn this new technology? Students and educators can share data in a cloud-based academic environment, anytime, on any device. Our commercial customers work in a similar environment, sharing information with designers, engineers, manufacturers, purchasing agents, sales people, marketing, anyone that needs to utilize smart data. Applications work on one platform, seamless to SOLIDWORKS desktop.
In the Collaborative Business Innovator role, the apps and services are 3DPassport, 3DCompass, 3DDashboard, 3DSwym, 3DDrive, 3DPlay, 3DSearch, 3DMessaging and User Groups.
MySolidWorks. Luckily, there is a series of free lessons on My SolidWorks developed by our Documentation Team. To begin, start with the Business Innovation learning path.
With new technology, there are definitions. You begin with a 3DPassport, an account, to authenticate and authorize your 3DEXPERIENCE ID. Every student, educator, administrator has a unique, named ID.
3DCompass allows you to access roles, apps, and services on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. The 3DCompass is divided into 4 quadrants:
North – My Social and Collaborative Apps
South – My Simulation Apps
East – My Information Intelligence Apps
West – My 3D Modeling Apps
3DDashboards on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform enable you to build a collection of information from diverse sources. As an educator, you can define your own custom dashboard to manage information about your courses, your research and display technology trends. For students, you and your teammates can share ideas and work on your project designs, all in one place with full cloud access.
3DSwym is a social environment on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform that allows members of a community to share ideas and become active participants in the innovation process. You create communities with common areas of interest. For example, a Formula SAE team, a senior design project, or a 3D Printing community.
3DDrive provides cloud-based document sharing. With your 3DPassport authentication, students and educators can securely share and store their documents and mash-up data from multiple cloud drives including Dropbox and Google Drive. If you have SOLIDWORKS data, you can interact with 3DDrive and Microsoft Windows Explorer.
3DPlay provides an immersive 3D visualization experience in the browser in context of your apps and widgets. You may already have experience with eDrawings or 3DContentCentral. With 3DPlay you can manipulate 3D objects, examine them in an exploded view and annotate them.
3DSearch and 6WTags allows you to index everything on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. This big data approach connects multiple systems and creates an index of the information. Content, collaborative spaces, and community data can be tagged, filtered and searched in terms of Who, What, When, Why, Where, and How.
3DMessaging on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform allows users to collaborate with each other to share 3D content, markups and comments in real time.
Creating User Groups in the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform speeds up collaboration and communication within your defined community. Groups are managed at the Platform level and can be leveraged by shared dashboards and 3DDrive content.
Wow, the Collaborative Business Innovator role contains many apps and services! My colleague Jeremy created this helpful video as a great introduction to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
Notice I haven’t talked about CAD features and functions. That will come. This is a new way of thinking about collaborative design. You need to start with a good foundation. Marie
