SOLIDWORKS Interns Bowled Over in 2018 Internship Design Challenge
Interns at the SOLIDWORKS office in Woodland Hills, CA, were tasked with a carnival themed design challenge that really got the ball rolling. The classic carnival game, Roller Bowler, was the inspiration for the challenge: create a device that consistently won the game, landing a ball between the two humps at the end of the Roller Bowler without letting the ball roll back.
Two intern teams assembled. Roy, a mechanical engineering graduate from the University of Maryland, and Maria, a mechanical engineering senior at California Polytech, joined forces in team SolidWinners. They competed against team Under-Prepared Over-Engineered, a partnership between Daniel, a mechanical engineering sophomore at the University of Southern California, and Abhishek, a mechanical engineering masters student at Carnegie Mellon.
The two teams were given an hour to design their solution to the problem. Then it was time to simulate using SOLIDWORKS, and finally head over to the hardware store to construct their designs.
Which team created the best Roller Bowler controller? Let’s find out!
Thank you to the awesome interns at the Woodland Hills, CA, office, @SOLIDWORKSCare, and Mike Puckett. Interns rule!!
