Nevada STEM Events Raise the Education Bar
Nevada’s Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) events this month brought out the best in students at exciting competitions.
The 5th annual Solar Car Challenge was held at Northwest Career and Technical Academy. Mechanical Technology students raced the solar cars they designed and built.
Making the connection between students skills and industry requirements was Bombard Renewable Energy, Deidre Radford, Residential Solar Project Manager.
Also taking what’s learned in the classroom to real world issues were the police robots showcasing their “special” skills. Great coordination from David Philippi, Community Partnership Coordinator, Northwest Tech Career Center to put the event all together for students and the community.
April is the month for Nevada SKILLS. SKILLS competitions take the best from technology schools across the state and place them in one location to compete in Technical Drawing, Precision Machining, Nursing, Web Design, Culinary, and a host of other events. Around the US and the world, SKILLS events are taking place,
Nevada SKILLS technical drafting is one of the most quite and intense. Students work individually to develop parts, assemblies, bill of materials, and drawings in timed period.
Carpentry was a team event to build a shed.
I was happy to see the number of women participating in Masonry
providing skills and job opportunities.
Thank you to Bob Diaz College of Southern Nevada and Mike Puckett SolidWorks for being judges at the event.
Thank you, Richard Williams (Corporal Willy) for the photos, the story, supporting so many STEM events in Nevada and sharing with the SolidWorks Community, Marie.
