Model Mania® SOLIDWORKS Challenge is Back for its 24th Year

3DEXPERIENCE World is one of the largest engineering conferences in the world, and is hosted every year by Dassault Systemes.  This year the conference takes place on February 12-15, 2023 in Nashville, TN.  Are you wondering if you should go?  Please find out why to attend.

Another great reason to attend is Model Mania®!  Since SOLIDWORKS World 2000, Model Mania has been an attraction for many engineers and designers wanting to compete in this challenge, and show off their SOLIDWORKS skills.  There are prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, but the biggest prize is the BRAGGING RIGHTS!  Becoming a Model Mania winner and joining the ranks of other Model Maniacs is a big achievement for many SOLIDWORKS users.

The past two years, 3DEXPERIENCE World was virtual.  We are very excited to be able to get together in person this year, and to give everyone more flexibility, this year’s conference will be hybrid.  Model Mania will be hybrid too, so we will have both an in-person challenge and a virtual challenge.

In-person Model Mania SOLIDWORKS Challenge

If you are attending 3DEXPERIENCE World in Nashville, be sure to visit the Playground.  The Playground is the official gathering place for the event and will showcase the latest and greatest products and services, while providing a unique opportunity to network with partners, makers and other like-minded users. While there, be sure to also visit Model Mania while you’re in the Playground.  The Model Mania SOLIDWORKS Challenge will have six private booths set up, and we supply a laptop and software for you to use.  All you need to do is show up and give it a try!

Here’s what to expect.  You will be given a 2D drawing of a part.  Your goal is to create that part in SOLIDWORKS Connected as quickly and accurately as you can.  Just like in the real world, there’s always an engineering change that needs to be made, and so with Model Mania, once you’re done “Phase 1” of the part, you move on to “Phase 2” where some modifications need to be made.  If you’ve created the part with good design intent, it should be a quick and easy edit to make the necessary changes.  All of the entries are judged based on accuracy first, and time second.

Virtual Model Mania SOLIDWORKS Challenge

If you will not be in Nashville, be sure to register for the virtual package!  Simply register, and select the Virtual option.  Attendance is FREE, and you will have access to the virtual Model Mania SOLIDWORKS Challenge.

In the virtual challenge, you will also be given a 2D drawing of a part.  Your goal is to create that part as quickly and accurately as you can.  All virtual contestants will use their own license of SOLIDWORKS, and any version will be accepted.  All of the entries are judged based on accuracy first, and time second.

The Winners Announcement for both the in-person and virtual challenges will be made in the Playground in the 3DEXPERIENCE Theater on Wednesday February 15 at 12:30 PM CST.  It will also be broadcast at the same time on SOLIDWORKS Live.
