New SOLIDWORKS Mold Making Exam Now Available

The SOLIDWORKS Mold Making exam is now available! Previously known as “Mold Tools,” this exam is a more industry-focused exam that includes a collection of new challenges and data sets that will test your mold making skills and Mold industry knowledge using SOLIDWORKS.

These challenges include everything from understanding mold actuation, such as a 3-plate mold design with mechanical stops, to uncovering potential mold problems, such as flash issues and cooling. You’ll be given problems sets, similar to the ease and understanding of the CSWP, where a customer has supplied you with a 3D model and you’re asked in a series of questions to then begin the design process for a mold.

This process includes understanding shrink rate and how it’s applied in the injection-molding process; adding draft when necessary; establishing the correct parting line given a direction of pull and draft angle; creating shut-off surfaces for holes and keyways; adding and manipulating the parting surface geometry using advanced surfacing techniques; designing core and cavity blocks with tapered interlocks and side core inserts. With these problem sets you’ll be given the opportunity to earn points along the way.

You must use at least SOLIDWORKS 2015 for this exam. Any use of a previous version will result in the inability to open some of the testing files.
