SWUGN Group Leader Spotlight – Chris White
Chris White started using SOLIDWORKS fifteen years ago at his first job with Machine Dynamics- one of the very first companies to start using the software in Canada. Immediately, Chris recognized the value of SOLIDWORKS and has stuck with it ever since; “it just blew me away with how powerful and user friendly it was. It’s amazing to see how much SOLIDWORKS has changed over the years”. Chris still lives and Canada, but now works at Quickmill, where he designs gantry milling machines that are used worldwide.
Chris remarked that he has had the pleasure of working with influential SOLIDWORKS users since his early days as an engineer; “John Carlan and Ted Lee brought SOLIDWORKS to Canada and have continued to bring new technology to the industry. Alin Vargatu, Richard Laflamme and Alex Arevalo have also been big supporters and presenters of SWUGN’s across Canada and have helped start many new user groups”.
As the leader of the Ontario SOLIDWORKS User Group for the past ten years, Chris has been successful to the point that he is now “in the midst of starting up a new eastern Ontario group that will start in the fall”. His growth is largely due to the fact that SOLIDWORKS user’s often discover the full capabilities of the software when they take part in User Groups; “It’s a great way to network with local users, and the tips and tricks you pick up are very handy because the training comes from industry experts who will show you the best way design robust, strong CAD files”.
SOLIDWORKS user groups are well known for helping out their members in the best ways they know how. Through education and networking, “we have been able to help several people who are out of work meet up with other users who eventually help to find them a new job”.
Chris loves watching his three kids compete in sports, and also enjoys playing hockey and baseball. But when Chris is not with his family, playing sports, or working, he travels to his family cottage for fishing and boating. We’re happy to have Chris as part of our SOLIDWORKS family. Thanks for all of your hard work!
Since 1996, SOLIDWORKS User Groups have been a valuable resource for SOLIDWORKS users all over the world. The SWUGN Committee and DS SOLIDWORKS provide ample support, but the real stars are the SOLIDWORKS User Group Leaders. Every week or so, we’ll spotlight one of our group leaders and the local user group chapter that they are responsible for leading.
