How Customers benefit from Dell and SOLIDWORKS Long-Standing Partnership

It’s amazing to see how much technology has transformed engineering and design. The critical and creative work enabled by a software and hardware toolset can produce incredible projects, from rockets bound for mars to solar-powered medical facilities. And these complex projects really shine when hardware and software tools function together seamlessly.

Dell Precision Precision Mini Tower (Model 3620, Farallon MT) and Small Form Factor (Model 3420, Farallon SFF) fixed workstations side by side, facing right, surrounded by Precision 7710 (Miramar) Non-Touch, 3510 (Park City P) Non-Touch, 5510 Touch (Berlinetta P) Non-Touch and 7510 (Miramar) Non-Touch mobile workstations.

That seamless and symbiotic balance is at the heart of the long-standing relationship between Dell and SOLIDWORKS. We’ve been working closely together for over 15 years to deliver innovative technology and services that our customers value and can depend on. Through thousands of hours of joint engineering work, Dell and SOLIDWORKS have architected a wide range of solutions to support customers’ design and engineering ambitions. That passion and creativity is what drives the perfect match of hardware and software; the goal is to develop focused solutions that can help you and your projects stay ahead of the game.

One message we continue to hear loud and clear: it’s essential that our customers are equipped with knowledge of the right SOLIDWORKS ecosystem to accomplish their goals, and reduce time to market. And whether you design, simulate or visualize, Dell Precision workstations support that need by offering the latest multi-core processors, high-end professional graphics, fast, highly expandable memory and the latest storage technologies.

Dell believes that with the constant pressure for companies to bring better products to market faster, there’s never been a better time to utilize the best technology to propel product design to new heights and drive costs down. To aid this approach, we contracted a study with SOLIDWORKS Expert Rob Rodriguez to conduct a series of tests designed to emulate the real world usage (an actual project) typical of a SOLIDWORKS user. The question Rob set out to answer: Which hardware/software combination offers the greatest user productivity gain for the investment – upgrading SOLIDWORKS software on an existing computer or upgrading SOLIDWORKS software and the computer? And how significant is the productivity gain?

“Testing found, a software upgrade from SOLIDWORKS 2012 to SOLIDWORKS 2015 on a Dell Precision T3600, provided an overall productivity gain of 16%, while an upgrade from SOLIDWORKS 2012 to SOLIDWORKS 2015 plus a hardware upgrade to a Dell Tower 5810 workstation delivered a productivity gain of 41%.” Rodriguez quantified the results by summarizing, “To put the usage test results into perspective, a 41% productivity gain means that a user can complete eight hours’ work in five hours 41 minutes.”

This was an eye opening project and we were glad to partner with SOLIDWORKS to quantify the ROI for customers, so we can deliver the best possible application performance.

Beyond the workstation itself, there are other benefits our customers realize through the ongoing partnership between Dell and SolidWorks.

  • Dell Precision Optimizer: Enhances your performance on applications like Dassault Systemes® SOLIDWORKS® by tuning your Dell Precision workstation for best performance. By fine-tuning your system beyond standard factory settings, we ensure that SOLIDWORKS runs at its maximum potential. Dell Precision Optimizer is built around three pillars: Automatic Performance Optimization, System Maintenance, and Tracking & Reporting. Once our software recognizes you are using SOLIDWORKS, it can change the system to the optimal configuration without you having to make these changes yourself. You simply select the profile for the application you are using, and our tool takes it from there.
  • ISV- Certifications: Dell partners with SOLIDWORKS even before product launch to foster sustainable innovation by running exhaustive tests to ensure Dell’s platform is validated to work perfectly with the SOLIDWORKS software. This is especially important for running mission-critical tasks that demand a superb experience with minimum downtime.
  • Compatible with Dell end-to-end solutions: SOLIDWORKS and Dell precision workstations also seamlessly work with Dell peripherals including Dell’s best in class monitors – designed to work together to increase user productivity with the highest levels of resolution, clarity and color accuracy. Perfect for the latest generation of SOLIDWORKS high DPI interface.  As a comprehensive end-to-end IT solution provider, we are a one-stop shop for all of your design and engineering needs and can help maximize your workflow experience with many industry leading products.

In the end, this combination of purpose-built solutions and a common passion to enable the world’s most innovative minds has helped Dell and SOLIDWORKS forge a lasting partnership. That shared goal of making your product innovation and development process productive and reliable is the cornerstone of our winning relationship.
