SolidWorks Composer in the Pump Industry
I just talked with a SolidWorks Composer customer with a pump, pipe, and valve company. He is a service manager who needs to create and conduct training with hundreds of reseller field service members who directly support their end users and bear their brand name. Using Composer, he figured out a way to transfer his product and service knowledge to the worldwide team efficiently and effectively. The conversation was very enlightening, and I thought I’d take a minute so share some of the points he made:
- “We’re in the 21st century now and the society we live in is 3D. People don’t like to open up a heavy paper manual anymore.
- Instead of using slides with only 2D images, if I can train my reseller technicians in 3D, they will understand the products much better, and will be able to provide more solid support to the customers in the field. This helps create happier customers.
- We do customer satisfaction surveys every year, and we want to keep our customers happy. For us, this means an 85% satisfaction rating or higher. When technicians are put on the spot, they need to be able to answer questions in the field. Our resellers bear our name out of this building.”

He went on to tell me “I’m not a programmer. I don’t have time to learn something new. We looked at possibly outsourcing some of the projects, but the cost factor doesn’t support that. For our needs, the benefit and cost ratio is astronomical for us to do it ourselves. So we adopted SolidWorks Composer. The great thing is that you don’t have to be an engineer to run it. I believe definitely this product is going to catch on like wildfire.”

It’s one thing to talk about how a product can help customers in the abstract; it’s another thing altogether to hear how it’s helping customers directly. If you’re using Composer, I’d love to hear about your experience.
