Searching for your design data

Computers make generating a ton of data very easy.  Finding it is often not so easy.  CAD does the same thing for engineers making it very quick to make iterations of parts, assemblies, and drawings but until now CAD has done little to help designers find the files.

SolidWorks 2007 has a new innovative Search capability.  From one search tool users can search their local drive, their PDM system, their shared network locations and even the Internet for design specific data.  This search is more than just file names it also looks into the design metadata for specific attributes even way down in a drawing title block.  TO do this SolidiWorks leveraged Windows Desktop Search and customized it to help find design data.

Search in SolidWorks 2007 is a great time saver.  I encourage you to install the search and check it out.
