SOLIDWORKS Cloud CAD Apps Can Build a Competitive Robot

Building a competitive robot in SOLIDWORKS desktop is proven.  But what about 100% Cloud CAD? We set out to prove you can build a competitive robot with SOLIDWORKS Cloud CAD apps and use the technology of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to keep track of the design process.

We are fortunate that our friends from FRC 5406 Celt-X First Robotics team provided their award-winning SOLIDWORKS desktop robot model from the 2019 FIRST Robotics World Championships Einstein field finals.

With the help of my engineering intern Natacha Ramioulle (Georgia Tech -USA) and apprentice Kundlik Gadade (Rajendra Mane College of Engineering – India) they reviewed the sound SOLIDWORKS desktop assemblies from FRC 5406 Celt-X.

The next step was to recreate the machined components in the SOLIDWORKS Cloud CAD App, xDesign.

Purchased components, like motors used SOLIDWORKS xDesign’s Import function.

Finally the assembly is complete!

Although Natacha is in the USA and Kundlik is in India, they continue to work together on the FIRST Kit of Parts Library.  With the help of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform apps they can keep track of revisions, tasks, critical issues and share with the 3DXEDU student community Wiki.

Any FIRST Robotics team, First Robotic Competition (FRC), First Tech Challenge (FTC), First Lego League (FLL) can apply for free sponsorship at www.solidworks.com/FIRST for SOLIDWORKS Cloud and/or SOLIDWORKS desktop.

Yes you can design a competitive robotics with 100% Cloud CAD.  More to come.

Design well, Marie
