3DEXPERIENCE Works Simulation Live Webinar Featured Company: QARGOS

QARGOS® is an Indian startup reimagining sustainable logistics. The company launched the world’s first compact logistics vehicle, known as the F9 Cargo Scooter, at the 3DEXPERIENCE WORLD Conference earlier this year in Dallas, Texas. In this exciting kick-off webinar session recorded on May 14th, we will share insights on how the F9 was completely imagined with the unified modeling and simulation (MODSIM) approach of SOLIDWORKS® and the cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE WORKS portfolio of product development solutions.

Company Background

In 2016, electrical engineer Vijay K. Praveen initiated his QARGOS startup, an eco-driven project focusing on two-wheel electric vehicles and e-bikes for cargo transport. Identifying a substantial market gap in the logistics sector for loads between 20 and 120 kg (44 and 264 lbs.), QARGOS seized a market potential surpassing US $5 billion. The F9 Cargo Scooter, QARGOS’ pioneering product, is designed specifically for densely populated areas and is a significant leap toward sustainable transport solutions.

The F9 was developed to address the health and safety concerns posed by traditional cargo transport on two-wheel vehicles. The product was launched into development in 2018 and benefited immensely from the SOLIDWORKS® for Startups Program that included access to both SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE® Works solutions. Alok Das, co-founder of QARGOS, highlights, “The addition of the 3DEXPERIENCE Works solutions—particularly the MODSIM workflows—magnified our capabilities and elevated our development efforts.”

QARGOS engineers needed to maintain the F9’s center of gravity to ensure stability under various load conditions, which required numerous simulations and customer interactions. Das elaborates, “Because 3DEXPERIENCE Works Simulation solutions are fully integrated with SOLIDWORKS, the transition between design and simulation is seamless, supporting the simulation-driven approach that helped us improve the design with every iteration.”

With a strategic focus on zero physical prototyping, QARGOS engineers leveraged and integrated SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE Works to explore numerous design alternatives early in the development stage. This approach enabled rapid progression, hastened time to market, and resulted in a lighter product, with a 30 percent weight reduction in the vehicle chassis achieved via alternative material selection.

The Power of Unified Modeling and Simulation

SOLIDWORKS enables you to create detailed and accurate models, while 3DEXPERIENCE Works Simulation can provide powerful and detailed analyses of your SOLIDWORKS designs. The design and simulation combination (MODSIM) enables quicker detection of design flaws and potential product failures. Integrating 3D CAD and FEA technologies is a comprehensive, cost-effective, and efficient approach to optimizing your designs.

As QARGOS experienced, iterating designs while leveraging simulation enables you to optimize the structure of your models to be both lightweight and strong.

Plus, the cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform enables you to easily share your designs with others in real time with a web-based viewer—no CAD or simulation software required. Collaboration with team members, including suppliers and customers, is simplified. Therefore, decision-making is streamlined as all stakeholders can participate in the process from the office, at home, or anywhere with an internet connection.
