Having a great design tool such as SOLIDWORKS is one thing, connecting your data to the cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform takes it to a whole new level where you can easily store, manage, and share your data. 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS, the “connected” version of the SOLIDWORKS you know and love, enables you to connect your data to the platform and take advantage of those capabilities.
We know your top priority is design, so throughout the year we work on making your workflow faster and easier, all while keeping it simple for you to share and collaborate on your data. With that in mind, here’s a look at this year’s top 10 capabilities in 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS, including a glimpse of what’s new in SOLIDWORKS 2024!
From Previous Release Compatibility and simplified large assembly workflows to the new Symmetric option for Linear Pattern, ECAD-MCAD collaboration in the cloud, and more, learn how you can collaborate with users of older versions of SOLIDWORKS and employ new assembly workflows to speed up large assembly design and documentation.
- Previous Release Compatibility – collaborate with other users even if they are using an older version of SOLIDWORKS.
This one is a real game changer. 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS users can now save their designs as an older version, up to two years prior to the latest release, so they can continue to work with their teammates and partners who may not have the latest version.
We realize not everyone has the means to upgrade at the same time so this provides a flexible option so you can continue to work on projects without delays. But with all the great new features in SOLIDWORKS 2024 you are not going to want to wait!
- Assemblies – save time when working on and sharing your assemblies.
This year we worked on making assembly workflows faster with new and improved, and simpler workflows.
For example, you can simplify your design in fewer steps to improve performance and protect your intellectual property with the Defeature Silhouette enhancement. This capability lets you defeature your model using rules that are based on criteria such as custom property, mass property, and file name.
In addition, you can insert your assemblies as a part and apply all features using the existing 3DEXPERIENCE platform data model.
And last, but not least you can also filter out unwanted components when importing a STEP file.
- Parts and Features – easily capture and communicate design intent in less effort.
There are several enhancements that will speed up sketching and ensure your design intent is clear.
For example, you can now create bidirectional linear patterns with a single click using the new Symmetric Linear Pattern option. There is now more flexibility when creating a Linear Pattern with the ability to create a bidirectional Linear Pattern. This speeds the creation of a bidirectional Linear Pattern by eliminating the need to define the second direction to the Linear Pattern. It also guarantees both directions will be symmetric and have the same number of instances in the pattern.
There’s also a new option to preview and edit a dimension as soon as you select one or more entities.
When it comes to notes and tables you now have the ability to display the unit of measurement as a custom property.
- Drawings and Detailing – create more accurate drawings.
Sometimes it’s the little things that can make a big difference, especially when it comes to communicating your designs more clearly. There are many enhancements to help you do just that, including the ability to clean up dangling dimensions by reattaching them to the proper reference points.
In addition, there are improvements to chain dimensions in drawings, so you can ensure your chain dimensions remain collinear, even with limited space, and easily meet drawing standards, such as ISO/ANSI.
There’s also a new option to exclude hidden sketches from DXF flat patterns when exporting.
- Share and Mark up in the Cloud – collaborate faster and share designs with ANYONE right from SOLIDWORKS.
The new Share and Markup capabilities make it easier for you and your partners to collaborate, AND they don’t even have to have the 3DEXPERIENCE platform OR SOLIDWORKS. Recipients can view and provide comments and markups that are attached to designs.
That’s just a glimpse of some of the top enhancements from this year. If you’re not connected yet, we’ve made it easier than ever to connect your SOLIDWORKS data to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, so you can get the most value out of your data with solutions like 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS and Cloud Services available in the 3DEXPERIENCE Works portfolio.
