SWUGN Group Leader Spotlight: Elena Marker

img_5429“I love to learn from anyone about what they are doing, how they present information, and just sharing information.”

Elena Marker started the Inland Empire SOLIDWORKS User Group very recently; in fact, the group has only been around since May 2016! “There weren’t any groups in the area; I felt like I could use the extra support and it could help others as much as it could help me.”

Even though the group has only had 2 meetings so far, their first meeting was strong start; “our first meeting was definitely the best; we had over 50 people in attendance, squeezed into a room for half that amount. Phil Sluder presented his Tips and Tricks. Overall it was a great start to our group.”

In addition to being a SWUG leader, she is also a manufacturing and engineering high school teacher, where she gets to teach students SOLIDWORKS. In fact, one of the main reasons she started the Inland Empire SWUG was to benefit her students! “With me as the leader, I felt I had more control of the when and where and could ensure that students could be a part of the group.”img_5991

When Elena isn’t teaching or leading user group meetings, she spends a lot of time outdoors and with her kids! “I love to camp, ski, play golf, bowl, and go to sporting events; I’m an avid LA Angles fan and a HUGE Denver Bronco fan.  I also like to spend time with my kids, usually at the soccer field.”

So why should you attend a SOLIDWORKS User Group meeting? “They get a chance to collaborate with other users, get questions answered and problems solved.  There’s always something new you can learn, and the free food of course!”

Since 1996, SOLIDWORKS User Groups have been a valuable resource for SOLIDWORKS users all over the world.  The SWUGN Committee and DS SOLIDWORKS provide ample support, but the real stars are the SOLIDWORKS User Group Leaders. Every week or so, we’ll spotlight one of our group leaders and the local user group chapter that they are responsible for leading.
