SOLIDWORKS World 2016 Session Preview: New Perspectives
To me, one of the most beneficial aspects of SOLIDWORKS World is breaking out of a daily routine. You’re no longer in the safe confines of your office checking off projects. Instead you’re face-to-face with nearly 6,000 of your peers. While that may seem daunting at first, but connecting with your fellow SOLIDWORKS users is the best way you can learn new skills and perspectives – whether that be during an informal chat or at more than 200 training sessions. Here are just a few sessions that might spark your interest:
- How to think like a simulation engineer with Michael Kalin, FEA Applications Engineer, CADD Edge
Michael’s an interesting presenter who has a knack for explaining difficult concepts simply (so even I can understand them). Further, he does an excellent job of a critical teaching skill: using relatable situations from home experiments/DIY projects.
Here’s what you can expect to learn: an introduction to simulation including best practices, troubleshooting techniques, and tips to make simulation fast, easy, and, best of all, accurate.
- Basic file management without a PDM system with Rachael Buhl, Application Engineer Instructor, Fisher/Unitech
If you want to train to be a Jedi, you learn from a Jedi. If you want to become wise in the ways of SOLIDWORKS data manaagement, you learn from Rachael who works exclusively as a trainer. In this case, she’s delivering knowledge on the key do’s and don’ts for SOLIDWORKS beginners not using a data management system.
Here’s what you can expect to learn: you will understand what is involved in proper manual handling of files that data management could otherwise handle. You will see common pitfalls to avoid, and learn good practices to initiate with, or without PDM.
- Sheet Metal – everything you wanted to know and more with Cami Florence, Senior Support Engineer, Fisher/Unitech
Known in some circles as the “sheet metal goddess,” Cami is all-knowing to all things sheet metal. Her knowledge allows her to explain solutions to common roadblocks so they are easily understood and hard to forget.
Here’s what you can expect to learn: those starting out in sheet metal will gain a better understanding of how to use the new features and tools available in SOLIDWORKS Sheet Metal and how best practices can enhance design and reduce design time.
- How not to be wrong – essential skills that prevent and catch design errors with Edward Eaton, Project Manager, Partner, DiMonte Group
Thanks to his relatable teaching style and approachable examples, (one such unforgettable explanation involved comparing the shell tool to mowing his lawn) Ed is a legendary presenter at SOLIDWORKS World and his sessions are not to be missed.
Here’s what you can expect to learn: you will learn best practices developed from over 18 years of using SOLIDWORKS that prevent design errors in the first place, and the SOLIDWORKS tools that uncover what’s wrong in CAD before goofs get released and avoidable mistakes become costly to fix.
Remember – beyond sessions, SOLIDWORKS World features built-in networking time, special events and ways to meet new people in the Product Showcase and Partner Pavilion. Be sure to take advantage; you may gain the new perspective to overcome a future challenge. The first step you need to take: registration. Sign up today while there’s still time to save!
