SWUGN Spotlight – Eastern Michigan SolidWorks User Group

In September 2005, Robert Meitzler put together the first meeting of the Eastern Michigan SolidWorks User Group.  Over 90 SolidWorks users attended the inaugural meeting – that may still be record for a first meeting.  Since then, the group hasn’t let up and retains the distinction of being SWUGN’s largest user group.  There has been one significant change however – new leadership.  Dan "Ditto Dan" Bovinich took over when Robert retired last year, and has served Robert’s legacy well.

Based near Detroit, Michigan, EMSWUG typically meets every other month.  After a few trials, the group has decided that daytime meetings best fit the needs of its members.  Meetings always open with lunch (good food too!), and follow with at least two technical presentations.  EMSWUG maintains a terrific website for its members, and has a really great relationship with the local resellers.

Dan sent me a little summary of the most recent EMSWUG meeting with some of the highlights.  In addition to the large turnout, what amazed me most was the fact that 30 new users showed up for this meeting.

If you’re a SolidWorks user in or near Detroit, you owe it to yourself to attend the next meeting (~May).  Dan puts on a terrific meeting, and I guarantee you’ll enjoy it and learn a lot about SolidWorks in the process.
