There is an extra step i.e. to enable the measure which is generally missed.<\/p>\n<p>If you notice, you can use the measure function in this file.\u00a0 But when it is saved and closed and then reopened, you will see in the status bar that measurement is disabled.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/3-70.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29084\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/3-70.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"307\" height=\"92\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/3-70.png 407w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/3-70-300x90.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 307px) 100vw, 307px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To enable measurement when using this method to create the eDrawings file, when the file first opens in eDrawings Professional you have to choose\u00a0<em>File &gt; Save As<\/em>\u00a0and make sure to check the\u00a0&#8220;<em>Enable measure&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0option and save.\u00a0 This step has to be done before the eDrawings Professional session is closed; that option will not be available if you reopen the eDrawings file.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/4-61.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29085\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/4-61-615x148.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"148\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/4-61-615x148.png 615w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/4-61-300x72.png 300w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/4-61-728x175.png 728w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/4-61.png 760w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Three ways to manage SOLIDWORKS Simulation SolidNetWork Licenses (SNL)<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><em>By Jay Seaglar<\/em><\/p>\n<p>You may already know that there are four possible common product license types that can give you access to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solidworks.com\/product\/solidworks-simulation\"><strong>SOLIDWORKS Simulation Add-In<\/strong><\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SOLIDWORKS Premium<\/li>\n<li>SOLIDWORKS Simulation Standard<\/li>\n<li>SOLIDWORKS Simulation Professional<\/li>\n<li>SOLIDWORKS Simulation Premium<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each of these license types provides access to a different combination of study types in SOLIDWORKS Simulation (among other differences \u2013 click <strong>Compare features<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solidworks.com\/product\/solidworks-simulation\">on this page<\/a> for details). For example, with <strong>SOLIDWORKS Simulation Standard,<\/strong> you get <strong>Static<\/strong> and <strong>Fatigue<\/strong> studies, but with <strong>SOLIDWORKS Simulation Professional<\/strong>, you also get <strong>Buckling<\/strong>, <strong>Frequency<\/strong>, <strong>Thermal<\/strong>, <strong>Topology<\/strong>, and others.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/1-84.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29088 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/1-84.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"818\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/1-84.png 525w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/1-84-193x300.png 193w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/1-84-395x615.png 395w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you have network (also known as \u201cfloating\u201d) licenses configured using <a href=\"https:\/\/help.solidworks.com\/2021\/english\/SolidWorks\/install_guide\/c_license_administration.htm\"><strong>SolidNetWork License (SNL) Manager<\/strong><\/a>, <em>and<\/em> your SNL Manager includes two or more of the above license types, you may occasionally find that you cannot create or run the study type that you want. Or perhaps you receive messages from colleagues asking you to release a more feature-rich license because someone else needs it more than you do.<\/p>\n<p>For example, your computer may have pulled a SOLIDWORKS Simulation Professional license automatically when it loaded the SOLIDWORKS Simulation Add-In on start up. However, maybe you only plan to run Static and Fatigue studies that day, so you can get by with a less feature-rich SOLIDWORKS Simulation Standard license instead.<\/p>\n<p>To make things easier, here are three ways that you and your admins can manage access to the SOLIDWORKS Simulation Add-In using network licenses, starting with the easiest (and least persistent):<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>On client systems<\/strong>: You can click <a href=\"https:\/\/help.solidworks.com\/2021\/english\/solidworks\/install_guide\/t_select_simulation_license.htm\">the down arrow at the bottom of the SOLIDWORKS Simulation button in the SOLIDWORKS Add-Ins CommandManager to directly choose the license you want to use to load the Add-In<\/a>. This is an \u201con-demand\u201d workflow that is applicable only to the current session of SOLIDWORKS Simulation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2-70.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29089\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2-70-615x197.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2-70-615x197.png 615w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2-70-300x96.png 300w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2-70-728x233.png 728w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2-70.png 753w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You may also want to consider clearing the <strong>Start Up<\/strong> checkbox option for SOLIDWORKS Simulation in <strong>Tools &gt; Add-Ins<\/strong> to avoid automatically pulling a license for SOLIDWORKS Simulation each time SOLIDWORKS starts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/3-71.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-29090\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/3-71.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"520\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/3-71.png 415w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/3-71-239x300.png 239w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 415px) 100vw, 415px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong> On client systems<\/strong>: Use the <strong>License Order<\/strong> tab in <a href=\"https:\/\/help.solidworks.com\/2021\/english\/SolidWorks\/install_guide\/t_installing_snl_license_client.htm\"><strong>SolidNetWork License Manager Client<\/strong><\/a> to move license types up or down as needed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/4-62.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29091\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/4-62-615x502.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"502\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/4-62-615x502.png 615w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/4-62-300x245.png 300w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/4-62-768x626.png 768w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/4-62-728x594.png 728w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/4-62.png 781w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The relative order of the license types determines which licenses SOLIDWORKS will attempt to pull (starting at the top of the list)<\/strong> the next time you load the SOLIDWORKS Simulation Add-In. If the first license type that can authorize the SOLIDWORKS Simulation Add-In is not available to you, SOLIDWORKS will work its way down the License Order list to the next possible license type, and so on.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/5-55.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29092\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/5-55-615x429.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"429\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/5-55-615x429.png 615w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/5-55-300x209.png 300w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/5-55.png 723w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Each Windows User account on each client system can have its own custom License Order specified, but <strong>you will need to unload, then reload the SOLIDWORKS Simulation Add-In to swap licenses<\/strong>. As a best practice, after you are done making changes to License Order, click on the License Usage tab in SolidNetWork License Manager Client or click the OK button. This will save the changes you made to the License Order. Note that any <strong>changes that you make will persist for future sessions<\/strong> unless you make an adjustment before loading the SOLIDWORKS Simulation Add-In.<\/p>\n<p>See <a href=\"https:\/\/customerportal.solidworks.com\/siebel\/app\/customerportal\/enu?SWECmd=GotoView&amp;SWEView=SW+OUI+KBase+Solution+View+(eService)&amp;SWERF=1&amp;SWEBU=1&amp;SWEApplet0=SW+OUI+KBase+Solution+Form+Applet+(eService)&amp;SWERowId0=1-DF1GAR\"><strong>Knowledge Base Solution S-021131<\/strong><\/a> for additional information.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong> On a server system<\/strong>: Talk to your admin about setting up (and subsequently maintaining) an <strong>SNL<\/strong> <strong>Options File<\/strong>. This approach is the most complicated of the three, but also the most powerful because it allows admins to precisely manage license allocation. Unlike changes to <strong>License Order<\/strong> (which can be adjusted through <a href=\"https:\/\/help.solidworks.com\/2021\/english\/SolidWorks\/install_guide\/t_installing_snl_license_client.htm\"><strong>SolidNetWork License Manager <em>Client<\/em><\/strong><\/a>), this method must be done through the <a href=\"https:\/\/help.solidworks.com\/2021\/english\/SolidWorks\/install_guide\/t_installing_snl_lic_mgr.htm\"><strong>SolidNetWork License Manager <em>Server<\/em><\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/6-47.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29093\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/6-47-615x148.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"148\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/6-47-615x148.png 615w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/6-47-300x72.png 300w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/6-47-768x185.png 768w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/6-47-728x175.png 728w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/6-47.png 781w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The strength of this approach is that it allows admins to create custom licensing rules to achieve things like reserving a number of licenses of a certain type for certain groups of users or even excluding specific users to prevent accidental license \u201choarding\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/7-38.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29094\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/7-38-566x615.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"566\" height=\"615\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/7-38-566x615.png 566w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/7-38-276x300.png 276w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/7-38-728x791.png 728w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/4\/7-38.png 752w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 566px) 100vw, 566px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The downside of this approach is that it may require some trial and error to get the rules just right, and it will subsequently require ongoing maintenance by admins (for example when users come and go or when there is a change to the license types they need).<\/p>\n<p>Individual users can still adjust <strong>License Order<\/strong> on a given client system, but whether they are granted a certain license types will depend not only on whether there is at least one free\/available license in the license pool, but also on rules established by the Options File.
