Full interoperability between SOLIDWORKS\u00ae PDM and SOLIDWORKS revision tables<\/h1>\n

SOLIDWORKS\u00ae PDM can now read and write values from or to a SOLIDWORKS revision table.\u00a0 Revision table rows can be updated using set variable transition actions or the set revision command.\u00a0 This ability was in the now discontinued SOLIDWORKS WORKGROUP PDM, has just been added for 2018 to both PDM Professional and Standard.<\/p>\n

Here is how you can configure your PDM Standard or Professional vault to accomplish this.<\/p>\n

For this example, we will update the \u2018Description\u2019 and \u2018Revision\u2019 variables in the table rows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
1. Click PDM Administration Tool > Vault > Variables > Description
\n\"\"<\/a><\/td>\n		2. Click the new attribute button.
\n\"\"<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
3. A new attribute is added to the variable.
\n\"\"<\/a><\/td>\n		4. Rename the new block name to \u2018SWRevTable\u2019.\u00a0 This must be typed in.\u00a0 It will not be available in drop list until after you enter it manually for the first time.
\n\"\"<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
5. The attribute name should be selected from the droplist for the \u2018Description\u2019 variable. Typing it in manually is possible, but may result in failing to add rows to the table.\u00a0 See published solution S-073768.
\n\"\"<\/a><\/td>\n		6. Enter slddrw for the extension.
\n\"\"<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
7. Press \u2018OK\u2019.<\/p>\n

8. Click PDM Administration Tool > Vault > Variables > Revision<\/p>\n

9. Repeat same process for the \u2018Revision\u2019 variable.\u00a0 SWRevTable should be available in the drop list at this point so it can be selected instead of typed in manually.\u00a0 Remember to select the attribute name from the drop list and to not type it in manually.

10. Click PDM Administration Tool > Vault > SOLIDWORKS > Revision Table<\/p>\n

11. Check the \u2018Enable Revision Table\u2019 checkbox.\u00a0 In the Revision Table Settings tab, define how many rows you want to be maintained in the revision table and a placeholder character.

12. In the \u2018Set Revision Command Settings\u2019 tab, check the \u2018update revision table in SOLIDWORKS drawing through \u2018set revision\u2019 command. Check the \u2018Revision\u2019 and \u2018Description\u2019 under \u2018Revision Table Columns\u2019, select the proper variable from the droplist.\u00a0 This droplist is populated with the variables that have been updated with the \u2018SWRevTable\u2019 property mapping.\u00a0 Revision needs no value set but enter a value for \u2018Description\u2019.\u00a0 This can be entered manually or selected from the variable\u00a0 list \u2018>\u2019 or a combination of both.
\n\"\"<\/a><\/td>\n		13. When working with drawing files and using the \u2018Set Revision\u2019 command in PDM, be sure to check the \u2018update variable\u2019 check box. There will be no update to the revision table if this is not checked.
