A thought on the mind of petrol heads (admittedly, just like me) the world over. In truth, it probably is but it could always be a little faster, right?<br \/>\nA popular power boosting modification is to swap out your intercooler for a larger unit but how does this help? Well let\u2019s use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tms-scotland.co.uk\/Products\/SolidWorks\/Simulation\/SOLIDWORKS-Flow-Simulation\/677-687\" target=\"_blank\"><u><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation<\/span><\/u><\/a> to find out.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tms-scotland.co.uk\/pix\/uploaded\/Library\/FlowSim020217_1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tms-scotland.co.uk\/pix\/uploaded\/Library\/FlowSim020217_1.jpg\" width=\"595\" height=\"322\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll begin by adding lids to the inlet and outlet of the intercooler (highlighted in red) because we intend to run an internal analysis. Next we\u2019ll use the intuitive Flow Simulation wizard interface to start building our study.<\/p>\n<p>After being compressed to almost 2 bar by the turbo forced induction air can get hot! As the intercoolers job is to lower this temperature as rapidly as possible we\u2019re definitely interested in heat conduction in this study.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tms-scotland.co.uk\/pix\/uploaded\/Library\/FlowSim020217_2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tms-scotland.co.uk\/pix\/uploaded\/Library\/FlowSim020217_2.png\" width=\"604\" height=\"325\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next, our general study setting. -3c (270k) ambient should simulate the Scottish summer nicely. This colder, denser air means a bigger combustion bang resulting in more power and, according to SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation, the bigger the better<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tms-scotland.co.uk\/pix\/uploaded\/Library\/FlowSim020217_6.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tms-scotland.co.uk\/pix\/uploaded\/Library\/FlowSim020217_6.png\" width=\"682\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tms-scotland.co.uk\/pix\/uploaded\/Library\/FlowSim020217_8.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tms-scotland.co.uk\/pix\/uploaded\/Library\/FlowSim020217_8.png\" width=\"629\" height=\"473\" align=\"absMiddle\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Looks like the cost and skinned knuckles from fitting were worth it after all.
