Parametric G3 Connections in SOLIDWORKS

The key to creating great surfaces in SOLIDWORKS is starting with great underlying sketch geometry. In this short video, Andrew Lowe, an Industrial Designer at the DiMonte Group, explains how to understand, create, and analyze splines in SOLIDWORKS.

The holy grail of spline continuity is a G3 connection. This is an extremely smooth connection between a spline and other sketch geometry. SOLIDWORKS doesn’t support the G3 connection out of the box, but using the new in SW2014 Style Spline G3 connections can be created between linear sketch geometry and planar model geometry.
