Held in Jasionka, Poland, last month, students, researchers, and industry professionals participated in the Martian robot competition and exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>Over 60 student teams took part from 12 countries, including Canada, Italy, Peru, Australia and U.S. Poland, with the largest participation, 17 teams, engaged the crowd in this exciting engineering competition.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-8442\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/European-Rover-Challenge-2016-2-615x411.jpg\" alt=\"European Rover Challenge 2016 2\" width=\"615\" height=\"411\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/European-Rover-Challenge-2016-2-615x411.jpg 615w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/European-Rover-Challenge-2016-2-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/European-Rover-Challenge-2016-2-768x514.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/European-Rover-Challenge-2016-2-728x487.jpg 728w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/European-Rover-Challenge-2016-2.jpg 1124w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solidworks.com\/sw\/education\/student-design-competitions.htm\">SOLIDWORKS Student Team sponsorship<\/a> program and support from SOLIDWORKS Value Added Reseller <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dps-software.pl\/\">DPS Software<\/a> Poland, SOLIDWORKS 3D design tools and SOLIDWORKS Simulation tools, \u00a0allowed the teams to design complicated rovers to complete four tasks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Geological<\/strong> \u2013 obtaining samples of \u201cMartian Soil\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maintenance<\/strong> \u2013 operating electrical rack units where several switches and other electrical components are mounted<\/li>\n<li><strong>Assistance<\/strong> \u2013 performing a delivery task<\/li>\n<li><strong>Navigation<\/strong> \u2013 approaching locations on the field with limited or without supervision<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Rovers are remotely controlled. They weight up to 50 kilograms and drive with 3 km\/h speed in rough terrain. That demands complicated chassis with advanced suspension. Here SOLIDWORKS also comes to help out early in the design process.
