Today in the UK, the country celebrates National Women Engineering Day<\/a>. \u00a0With a 94 year history, the Women in Engineering<\/a> Society has been celebrating the accomplishments of women in design and engineering. \u00a0This year there is a strong focus on encouraging girls to select Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) fields.<\/p>\n

To support Women Engineering Day, our UK SOLIDWORKS Value Added Reseller, NT CADCAM<\/a>\u00a0features stories of women in engineering all week. \u00a0 Bridget Mason<\/strong>, Marketing Director for NT CADCAM interviewed\u00a0Ana Fernandez<\/strong>, engineer for Timberwolf<\/a>, Europe’s biggest wood chipping and shredding companies and created today’s blog post<\/a>. \u00a0 Ana learned about SOLIDWORKS in school,\u00a0first in\u00a0Industrial Design and Product Development at the Universidad de Extremadura, Spain\u00a0and then\u00a0Mechanical Engineering at the Dundalk Institute of Technology in Ireland.<\/p>\n

NT CADCAM will also feature\u00a0the\u00a0test driver, Amy Livingston, engineering student from the Cambridge University Eco Car ( CUER) <\/a>UK team\u00a0and other amazing stories <\/a>this week.<\/p>\n

Since SOLIDWORKS WORLD, we continue to promote women in engineering and technology through our Women in Engineering <\/a>Program. \u00a0You can nominate a woman that has contributed to the engineering field and her community\u00a0through the application process. \u00a0With more women learning SOLIDWORKS at school, Dassault Systemes SolidWorks Corporation is working hard\u00a0to encourage young women in technology fields. \u00a0This month’s story features Kristen Railey<\/a> from MIT Lincoln Labs and founder of Girls Who Build Wearable Workshop, inspiring high school girls through design, engineering and manufacturing, \u00a0We continue to sponsor STEM organizations such as FIRST Robotics<\/a> that encourage girls to learn more about\u00a0STEM fields.<\/p>\n

Dassault Systemes<\/a> is also part of the PAX <\/a>Ellevate Global Index, \u00a0the first broadly diversified mutual fund that invests in the highest-rated global companies in advancing women’s leadership. \u00a0Finance, Legal, Human Resources, and Marketing departments have had a long history of employing women and women managers at DS. \u00a0In the past, engineers have been a bit more challenging because so few women choose engineering as a profession. \u00a0But this summer, there is a noticeable difference in the SOLIDWORKS intern area at\u00a0our DS North America headquarters. \u00a0There are both talented women and men supporting\u00a0our SOLIDWORKS customers and internal departments. \u00a0Here are just a few interns that were in at 7:30 this morning so I could take their\u00a0photo!<\/p>\n

I have to call special attention to my intern, Ruxandra Duca, WPI, majoring in Aerospace Engineering, returning this summer. \u00a0Last year, Ruxi created FIRST Robotics videos <\/a>to help out students design competitive robots. \u00a0This year, Ruxi is developing new models and videos to help students in mechanical, electrical, automotive and aerospace engineering with SOLIDWORKS and SOLIDWORKS Simulation.<\/p>\n
