Turner High <\/a>(M.E.T.S.A) in Carrollton, TX presented the wind turbine they designed and built to charge their electric RC car at the Ten80 finals.<\/p>\n<p>I first met the Ten80 team of engineers and educators five years ago.&nbsp; The term \u201cSTEM Education\u201d was just working its way into&nbsp;the US education system.&nbsp;&nbsp; Ten80\u2019s curriculum is truly an exciting integration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) principles and since that first year we met, Dassault Systemes SolidWorks Corp&nbsp;has been an integral part of the Ten80 project.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This year, NASCAR<sup>(R)<\/sup>endorsed the Ten80 Student Racing Challenge: NASCAR STEM Initiative<sup>(R)<\/sup> because it accurately parallels the jobs, especially the engineering, design and manufacturing, that real race teams engage in for months leading into each race.&nbsp;&nbsp; Through the Student Racing Challenge (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.studentracingchallenge.com\/\">www.StudentRacingChallenge.com<\/a>), middle and high schools are using SolidWorks and other technologies to optimize their team\u2019s race car which is a 1:10 scale radio controlled (RC) car.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Student teams also develop sustainable transportation systems in the competition category called P.I.T. Now\u00e4, <em>Petroleum Independent Transportation Now<\/em>.&nbsp; <a title=\"SolidWorks Sustainability\" href=\"https:\/\/www.solidworks.com\/sustainability\/\" target=\"_self\">SolidWorks Sustainability<\/a> is a major tool to help these students understand the global impact of their design decisions and broaden their insight into the real challenges of sustainability.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>My colleague Chris has been involved with NASCAR since she was a kid &#8211; so now having this student design&nbsp;competition with Ten80 and NASCAR is terrific!&nbsp; As we travel the country, Chris continues to&nbsp;provide me facts on&nbsp;NASCAR teams and their high performance parts designed in SolidWorks.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<a style=\"display: inline;\" href=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/6a00d83451706569e20154325d8803970c.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a00d83451706569e20154325d8803970c image-full\" title=\"Ten80SRC_SteeringStabalizer_SolidWorks\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/6a00d83451706569e20154325d8803970c-800wi.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Ten80SRC_SteeringStabalizer_SolidWorks\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a style=\"display: inline;\" href=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/6a00d83451706569e2014e887e2554970d.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a00d83451706569e2014e887e2554970d image-full\" title=\"Ten80 SRC Wing Project Analysis\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/6a00d83451706569e2014e887e2554970d-800wi.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Ten80 SRC Wing Project Analysis\" \/><\/a>&nbsp;<br \/>Earlier this month, middle and high school teams from around the U.S. gathered at Michael Waltrip Racing and Charlotte Motor Speedway to compete in the Ten80 SRC National Finals.&nbsp; Because communities are struggling financially, several teams participated virtually including Eaglecrest High School students from Aurora, CO.&nbsp; They presented Creative Engineering projects like devising a steering stabilizer to minimize driver error, building a composite control arm and designing air ducts to reduce the motor temperature and improve efficiency.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<a style=\"display: inline;\" href=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/6a00d83451706569e20154325d8bae970c.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a00d83451706569e20154325d8bae970c image-full\" title=\"Ten80 SRC Wing Project\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/6a00d83451706569e20154325d8bae970c-800wi.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Ten80 SRC Wing Project\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Meet some of these teams at Ten80\u2019s facebook page (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Ten80Education\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Ten80Education<\/a>)&nbsp; .<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"display: inline;\" href=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/6a00d83451706569e2014e887e24bb970d.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a00d83451706569e2014e887e24bb970d image-full\" title=\"Ten80SRC_Student-STEM-Team\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/6a00d83451706569e2014e887e24bb970d-800wi.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Ten80SRC_Student-STEM-Team\" \/><\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Lightning Motorsports from Garinger New Technology in Charlotte, NC<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This weekend you can meet&nbsp;Terri Stripling through a&nbsp;through a live interview at 10 AM EST this Friday, May 20<sup>th<\/sup> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blogtalkradio.com\/edutalk\">www.blogtalkradio.com\/edutalk<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;She is a chemical engineer,&nbsp;president of Ten80 and a good friend.&nbsp; The session will also be recorded and posted to <a title=\"Student Racing Challenge\" href=\"https:\/\/studentracingchallenge.com\/\" target=\"_self\">Student Racing Challenge <\/a>after May 21st. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I believe that Ten80\u2019s vision is the blueprint for fueling student interest in STEM.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Maybe we have gotten together so well because the founders Beverly Simmons is a science teacher and Jeff Thompson is a mechanical engineer and an artist.
