The University of Western Ontario<\/a>, under the direction of  Paul Kurowski<\/a>, has built an undergraduate design curriculum around SolidWorks. A number of non-design courses are also linked to that design stream. Graduating students leave  UWO with working knowledge of CAD and Simulation and with software skills ready for industrial implementation.  I was fortunate that Dr Kurowski has shared his research and program with all of you.  His paper, COURSE LINKING IN THE UNDERGRADUATE CURRICULUM AT WESTERN ENGINEERING, was published in the CEEA 2010 Conference <\/a>last year. <\/p>\n

 In his research, a well established system of grading is used to verify if the understanding of course based knowledge has been effective. Unfortunately, we have no control over how that piecewise knowledge is amalgamated and what kind of global understanding of engineering students are left with.<\/p>\n

The relevance of one course to another is established by a system of pre-requisite requirements but this is not sufficient to build bridges between different courses.<\/p>\n

Dr Kurowski’s paper and presentation are below.  He also teaches courses through SAE<\/a>, is a noted author, and a leader in mechanical engineering education with SolidWorks.   Marie<\/p>\n
