Ashley was 4 years old. Starting at age 5, Ashley remembers putting small parts into plastic bags with her dad in the basement. Business grew out of the house into an industrial precision shop in Lawrence, Massachusetts.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-17259\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/IMG_4622-615x461.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/IMG_4622-615x461.jpg 615w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/IMG_4622-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/IMG_4622-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/IMG_4622-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/IMG_4622-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/IMG_4622-728x546.jpg 728w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In high school, Ashley continued to work in the office along side her mom, focusing on corporate and financial aspects.\u00a0 Ashley made a decision to leave &#8220;shop life&#8221; and go onto college learning about business\/marketing and her other passion, photography.\u00a0 After graduation, she opened her own successful photography studio.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-17258\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/IMG_4620-615x461.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/IMG_4620-615x461.jpg 615w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/IMG_4620-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/IMG_4620-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/IMG_4620-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/IMG_4620-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/IMG_4620-728x546.jpg 728w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But at age 24,\u00a0 illness forced Ashley to give up her studio. The family stuck together and as Ashley&#8217;s health improved she was back in the shop part-time, learning about every aspect of the business from her mother, Janet in finance, office management and customer support. United by love of her family, Ashley persevered in and out of the shop. John then attended <a href=\"https:\/\/www.neit.edu\/\">\u00a0New England Institute of Technology<\/a> learning SOLIDWORKS, CAM software and additional machining skills. Today, John is a master machinist and shop manager.\u00a0 He develops North Shore Technical High School students&#8217; skills and is training the new quality manager, Katie and co-op, Paula from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glts.net\/\">Greater Lawrence Technical High School.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Megan also graduated from Greater Lowell Technical High School.\u00a0 Although Megan had a shop background from her family, she studied cosmetology.\u00a0 Megan returned to Greater Lowell for Adult Education Classes for CNC Machining. Megan too is my role model.\u00a0 She provides so many young women, men and\u00a0 Career and Technical Education(CTE) educators in the trades examples of success based on hard work and education. She is a Member-At-Large of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skillsusa.org\/\">SkillsUSA<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maskillsusa.org\/\"> MA Alumni &amp; Friends Association<\/a> Executive Board, as well as Vice President for Greater Lowell Techs SkillsUSA Alumni Association.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-17271\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/Mills-Machine-Instagram-615x407.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"407\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/Mills-Machine-Instagram-615x407.png 615w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/Mills-Machine-Instagram-300x199.png 300w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/Mills-Machine-Instagram-768x509.png 768w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/Mills-Machine-Instagram-728x482.png 728w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/Mills-Machine-Instagram.png 1134w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sharing their experiences, promoting women in manufacturing and showcasing production, the new\u00a0<a style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/millsmachineworks\/\"> Mills Machine Works Instagram account\u00a0<\/a> features women working on the shop floor and in a variety of roles &#8211; including owning and managing a business. For Ashley and her siblings, finding good help is one of their biggest challenges.\u00a0 That is why encouraging young women and training young co-ops is what they do.<\/p>\n<p>Mills Machine Works customers are impressive.\u00a0 They focus on aerospace, automotive and defense, for some of the largest companies in the world and still give the personal care to small companies and startups.<\/p>\n<p>I asked Ashley what advice would she give an engineer who uses SOLIDWORKS, she stated &#8220;Let us partner with you &#8211; prior to submitting a purchase order.&#8221;\u00a0 She went on to say, we can look for things in a design to make manufacturing most efficient and cost effective.
