Job Skills.\u00a0 Employment.\u00a0 Retraining.\u00a0 Words we hear over again.\u00a0 We need qualified designers and machinists.\u00a0 We need training for young adults that need skill sets for great jobs.\u00a0 The Deeplocal<\/a> organization is a group of creative engineers who invent interactive experiences that tell human stories. Started from Carnegie Melon University<\/a> engineers and designers, Deeplocal is an integral part of Pittsburgh, PA, USA.<\/p>\n

Gizmology<\/a> is Deeplocal\u2019s one-year creative technology apprenticeship program for high school graduates and underemployed adults in Pittsburgh\u2019s Black community. Their goal is to advance racial equity in creative and technical fields through on-the-job training and mentorship. Apprentices receive full-time salary and benefits\u2014no college degree required.<\/p>\n

I was fortunate to meet Gizmology’s program director,\u00a0Kirk Holbrook, <\/span>to explain the intense program.<\/p>\n

Paid apprentices work at Deeplocal five days a week, beginning with project-based learning across disciplines. From there, they specialize in one or more tracks, working alongside Deeplocal team members on real-world client projects.<\/p>\n

Apprentices receive receive:
\n\u2022 SOLIDWORKS instruction and Industry-recognized certifications
\n\u2022 Portfolio of interactive work for global brands like Google and Spotify
\n\u2022 Job opportunity at Deeplocal
\n\u2022 Significant earning potential in the tech sector<\/p>\n
