There were three boat designs; the catamaran, the swamp boat, and the canoe.<\/p>\n<p>All the CAD designs of the stock parts were provided to the students to redesign and optimize or to design their own from scratch.\u00a0 Additional parts could be fabricated using a 3D printer.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-10071\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/MTC-DPR3-SOLIDWORKS-615x461.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/MTC-DPR3-SOLIDWORKS-615x461.jpg 615w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/MTC-DPR3-SOLIDWORKS-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/MTC-DPR3-SOLIDWORKS-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/MTC-DPR3-SOLIDWORKS-728x546.jpg 728w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/MTC-DPR3-SOLIDWORKS.jpg 1181w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Each team had a budget to work with for all boat parts and processes having an associated cost. The budget enabled students to fabricate new parts and purchase items.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the course the students had the opportunity to learn rudimentary engineering principles, how to use SOLIDWORKS, program with an Arduino, and how 3D printing technology works.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-10073\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/MTC-DPR5-SOLIDWORKS-615x461.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/MTC-DPR5-SOLIDWORKS-615x461.jpg 615w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/MTC-DPR5-SOLIDWORKS-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/MTC-DPR5-SOLIDWORKS-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/MTC-DPR5-SOLIDWORKS-728x546.jpg 728w, https:\/\/blog-assets.solidworks.com\/uploads\/sites\/3\/MTC-DPR5-SOLIDWORKS.jpg 1181w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>SOLIDWORKS was used on the first 3 days of the course and gave the students a chance to experience using an industry standard CAD software and design elements of their boat to be 3D printed.
