Lesson 17: SOLIDWORKS Academic Certification – SOLIDWORKS CAD Design Professional (CSWP) Segment 2

In Lesson 16 we covered taking the on-line proctored SOLIDWORKS CAD Design Professional (CSWP) Segment 1 certification exam.

In this lesson, address the SOLIDWORKS CAD Design Professional (CSWP) Segment 2 certification exam. Segment 2 focuses on part modifications and configurations.

The exam is 50 minutes long with twelve (12) questions divided into three categories. A total score of 77 out of 104 or better is required to pass. The format is either multiple-choice or single fill in the blank.

The first question is an instructional page. Read the instructions. Agree to the Candidate Conduct Policy. Click Yes. It’s a free 5 points. Click the link to download the needed parts. Save the downloaded files to a working folder, (Extract All).

For questions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 open an existing part and modify the geometry through modification of its features and parameters. You can modify the part in any way necessary in order to correctly achieve the changes that are instructed.

For the final 4 questions, open an existing part and modify the geometry based on the use of configurations.

Note: The second question is a multiple-choice format. You should have the exact answer (within 0.5% of the stated value in the multiple-choice section) before you move on to the next question. If you don’t have the exact answer, you will most likely fail the following question. This is crucial as there is no partial credit.

Segment 2 requires knowledge of the following:

  • Download and open a zip file (Three parts are provided).
  • Recognize Engineering drawing views with annotations.
  • Set correct document properties (units, precision, etc.).
  • Apply material.
  • Utilize various simple and complex sketch tools.
  • Apply sketch relations and dimensions.
  • Apply various simple and complex Feature tools.
  • Employ the Measure and Mass Properties tool.
  • Modify part geometry.
  • Understand configurations.
  • Analyze configurations.
  • Create new configurations.
  • Modify existing configurations.
  • Copy and Paste configurations.
  • Recover from rebuild errors.

If you fail this segment of the exam, you need to wait 14 days before you can retake it. In that time, you can take another segment.
