Lesson 8: SOLIDWORKS Academic Certification – SOLIDWORKS Additive Manufacturing Associate (CSWA-AM) exam.

In the last few lessons, we addressed the Academic SOLIDWORKS CAD Design Associate (CSWA) Certification exam journey.

SOLIDWORKS Certification demonstrates your commitment to enhancing your skill set in an ever-changing world.

Lesson 8 covers the on-line proctored SOLIDWORKS Additive Manufacturing Associate (CSWA-AM) exam. The CSWA-AM exam can be taken with either Desktop SOLIDWORKS or 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS.

Obtaining the CSWA-AM certification indicates a foundation in and apprentice knowledge of today’s 3D printing technology and market. Note: If your school is an Academic Provider, the provider can allocate a free CSWA-AM exam opportunity.

The CSWA-AM exam covers numerous areas: material types, printing technologies, machine types and processes, part design and orientation for 3D printing, printer preparation, post printing finishing STereoLithography (SLA), Slicer software features and functionality and available software-based printing aids.

It is highly recommended to complete the 10-part learning path located on the Additive Manufacturing | MySolidWorks Training link before taking the CSWA-AM exam.

The 10-part learning path addresses the STereoLithography (SLA), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), and Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) processes of 3D printing, and how it’s rapidly changing the manufacturing world. The learning path covers the basics of setting up and running successful parts from your FDM or SLA printer.

The lessons cover: Introduction to Additive Manufacturing (7 minutes), Machine Types (8 minutes), Materials (7 minutes), Model Preparation (9 minutes), File Export Settings (8 minutes), Machine Preparation (7 minutes), Printing the Part (6 minutes), Post Printing (7 minutes), Part Finishing (9 minutes) and Software Options (9 minutes).

If your school is an Academic Provider, the provider can allocate free CSWA-AM exam opportunities. An Academic Certification Provider is defined as an educational institution on subscription, with a minimum number of licenses (varies by country), that is eligible to administer CSWA, CSWP and other specialty exams.

There are 50 questions in the CSWA-AM exam. Each question is worth 2 points. Questions are either in a True or False or a multiple-choice format.

You are allowed to answer the questions in any order. Total exam time is 60 minutes. You need a minimum passing score of 80 or higher. The exam is out of 100 points.

Note: The exam covers the Ultimaker 3 (FFF) and the FormLabs Form 2 (SLA) machine as examples. Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) and Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) are used interchangeably in the certification exam.

After passing the CSWA-AM exam, you will receive an electronic certificate, digital badge and personal listing (if allowed) in the 3DEXPERIENCE Certification Center.

If you fail the CSWA-AM exam, you will need to wait 14-days before retaking it again.
