Western New York P Tech STEM College and Career Academy Celebrates Student Achievement with SOLIDWORKS Certification and Job Skills

Western New York Pathways in Technology Early College – High School (WNY P-Tech) is the latest educational institution to celebrate student success with the SOLIDWORKS community. WNY P-Tech’s program starts in the 8th grade and continues through high school where students learn the skills in CAD, machining, welding and mechatronics. But it doesn’t stop there.  As students skills and classroom knowledge develop, they earn college credit to Jamestown Community College State University of NY (SUNY). The program, developed with Jamestown Community College, leads to higher degrees, technical certificates, and life long learning.

I got to sit down with proud Mechanical Design instructor, Nick Anson and talk about his up to 6 year technology – full day program to train new talent for employers in western New York.  Last month, WNY P-Tech announced that Senior,  Felix Manzella from Fredonia, NY recently earned his professional SolidWorks certificate in Mechanical Design (CSWP).

Just a few days later, Scott Flick also received his CSWP.

WNY P-Tech student success comes with dedication from Nick, who received his SOLIDWORKS training from our SOLIDWORKS value added reseller, CADimensions. Nick also know the industries surrounding Dunkirk/Fredonia/Western NY. He presents students with relevant examples in design, machining and sheet metal work.

From hand drawings to manufacturing drawings, students build their skills. Nick introduces SOLIDWORKS early in students’ education.

From manual machining methods, students learn sound, safe, fundamentals.

Students can also choose additive manufacturing and robotics courses.

With SOLIDWORKS Education license, students have their own Student license for home computers.  Nick directs students to My SOLIDWORKS for extra lessons, sample problems, and provides the opportunity to take the Certified SOLIDWORKS Associate (CSWA), CSWP and Sheet Metal exams through the SOLIDWORKS Academic Provider program..

The strong connection to the community college for advanced learning and skills is truly apparent.  When I asked, who is your boss?” Nick stated, “principal Jeff Teluk, focused on student success, and who used to be the Director-Engineering Science and Technology at Jamestown Community College.”

The graduating class certainly has something to celebrate.  Last week was WNY P-Tech’s high school award ceremony as they continue their journey at Jamestown Community College. Students were also recognized for achieving their Associate in Science Degrees in Welding Technology and Mechanical Technology Machine Tool.

Thank you Nick and WNY P-Tech students  for sharing with the SOLIDWORKS Community.

Design well.  Marie
